He doesn’t care about FEMA, NIH etc. He cares about talking about them. Which is why it’s important for those entities to be proactive behind the scenes and realize that all they have to do is Smile and give him credit for shit that isn’t really happening. Newsome understood this yesterday.

It’s easy for Trump to respond to talking heads and proclamations. He just talks to media and posts on socials. It’s hard for him to have control of the details of legislation beyond Exec Orders, because they take time, legal understanding and nuance. Which he has zero interest in.

Or like how Star Trek images we become better people after World War III. Tell us the stories about how we get to this mythological “basic goodness.” I’d LOVE to live in this magical America you’ve been living in this whole time. I can’t even imagine it. Your job now is to help me imagine it.

Not unlike how America itself is premised on genocide. Indecency all the way down. But it’s your job to give us better stories than this. See these problems with the stories and histories we’re handed and write something better. Or how Star Wars urges us …

It happened to other peoples, but it couldn’t happen to us because we’re some uniquely, innately moral “Super-Nation?” Was the superhero genre just an expression and elaboration of this exceptionalism? Anyway I’d talk to Black-American comic book writers if I were you.

Sounds to me like you need to get over this Liberal/Progressive brand of American exceptionalism. You think Americans have a “basic goodness” that other people lack? You think Americans should have been uniquely immune to demagoguery?

People don't want handouts, because handouts are defined as programs that only help other (undeserving) people. Programs that help me are all well-designed initiatives that I have earned through my inherent goodness.

And that "The Law" and "The Constitution" are things, irrespective of politics. Obviously at a much lower level, but this was something that infuriated me in law school, people who thought all of this was anything other than politics all the way down.
