New Manitoba legislation would deem the deliberate misuse of someone’s preferred pronouns as discrimination and increase human rights protections for the LGBTTQ+ community.

If there's one thing that domestic violence research has taught me, it's that abusers set up no-win scenarios. They punish you whether you cooperate with them or whether you push back. The only way out is to strengthen ties with people outside of the relationship who can create new, better options.

Here’s another much more salacious depiction of Miss Canada and Uncle Sam. Richard Cartwright the Liberal finance minister is an “Arab” selling her into (sexual) slavery. 1891 Conservative campaign poster.

US annexation of Canada was often imagined as a marital (read: sexual) union by 19th and 20th c cartoonists. Bengough uses the motif in this 19 Jan 1889. It’s funny b/c Miss Canada (who’s particularly comely in her toque and blanket coat) rebuffs US’s come on. Girl just wants to shop.

The Berks conferences have sometimes been complicated and disappointing. But they’ve also been generative of so much feminist historical scholarship, organizing, & institution building. Is the only possible response to pull the plug on 2026? I really hope there’s another answer.

Heather Stefanson and Danny Smyth’s career legacies, at least for me, but I suspect for a lot of people, is that they refused to search the landfill.

Lolsob.

Listening to the national radio and hearing the predictable question about “the west,” and reminded of what that signals. It certainly isn’t the two out of four western provinces with NDP governments.

I don’t understand why the president is allowed to spout nonsense about colonizing another country and the 25th amendment isn’t being invoked in addition to all the other horrors this is insane. It’s absolutely insane. It isn’t funny or even weird.

It is wild to see how far right Canadian politics have swung - not just in the U.S. folks! Because yeah, Carney is a traditional conservative, but the Liberals are now occupying that political space.

PC leadership hopeful Khan breaks with interim leader, won't call refusal to search landfill a mistake www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Je suis relieved.

I hope for justice & peace for the family of Morgan Harris and that those who made a platform of their refusal to search, of their cruel racism & misogyny, are never heard from again.

“The short-sighted actions of President Trump and statements about forcing Canada to become part of the U.S. through economic coercion are a violation of international law, which protects the right to self-determination of all First Nations.” #Indigenous #tariffs #law #rights

Trump's tariffs are here—and they threaten to wreck Canada's economy. Grabbing the nearest “Made in Canada” label won’t shield us from the fallout. We need emergency measures to protect workers from job losses, price gouging, rent hikes, and evictions. breachmedia.ca/trumps-trade...

I’ve spent my career studying imperialists bullying ‘weaker’ countries & leaders but it still didn’t prepare me for the sadness of witnessing an instance playing out, in public and in real time. apple.news/AAvyAG8eGSSK...
