Yes that's a very good deal. Remember alot of systems will seem smaller on that 16:9 screen. But as a noob he probably won't mind stretching systems like mega drive and NES. Either way, good price and really nice handheld.

Hey! It's not one of my personal devices but everytime I mess around with it I'm reminded how nice it is. It's like a cheap Retroid Pocket 5 in its shape. Controls are really nice.
