(He/Any) General engineer. No, more general than that. Beholding the carelessness, angry we aren't caring for each other more.

I know you aren't going to want to hear this but the reason the system can deport Mahmoud Khalil and send Kilmar Abrego Garcia to El Salvador is that for years we've been executing factually innocent people like Marcellus Williams and sending legally innocent people to places like Riker's Island.

Continuing to beg, plead, with democrats to stop seeing polls as a weather forecast they need to dress for and give leadership a try.

The reason there's been no attempt at legal action in El Salvador isn't just they've formally stripped all legal protections and due process. Bukele's regime also retaliates against lawyers who try and has effectively crushed any resistance from them. The attacks on the rule of law are all related.

One of the reasons I’m struggling to inhabit the current historical era is that I along with many others have been saying that US prisons are torture chambers for decades and most people don’t mind this in the least. I’m not sure who will be moved to close prisons now.

I have maintained for a while that the reason everything around the world (funded by petro-states and carbon oligarchs) is happening rn is because the most powerful industry to ever exist on the face of the Earth has no future. And so it must wipe the future out of our imaginations.

Still chewing on reading this yesterday. Even here there’s state violence that needs to be stopped.

The media ran 3 weeks of wall-to-wall multiple-front-page stories a day coverage in order to inform the public that one of these two men was dangerously senile and unqualified to be President.

Watching this Trump-Bukele meeting with chime-ins from Miller, Bondi and Rubio. There's just no question about the game they're playing. A stream of lies and escalations and absolute nonsense that any sane person can see through instantly. Astonishing that so many don't.

"the state can just summarily imprison someone without filing charges or holding a trial" doesn't just overturn democracy it overturns 1000 years of common law, like throwing out the entire legal system entirely and saying all people in America are the state's property.

I'm a lawyer and this is correct. Straight line of "blatantly illegal constitutional end-runs to violate human rights" from Iran–Contra to Gitmo to CECOT paved by the only consequences the perpetrators suffering being more money, more power, and more prestige.

It’s hard to describe how angry and dejected I am with anyone in any position of leadership. A local councilmember responded to a horrific murder attempt by saying the victim is a health and safety hazard that needs to be cleaned up. What’s the point of anything if human life is so worthless?

You know a great way to microdose courage if you’re someone who struggles with standing up for things? (Half of you are gonna be like “of course” and the other half are gonna roll your eyes, but I’ll say it anyway:) wear a mask on public transit

Remember this is in spite of BOTH major political parties and major news outlets attempting to manufacture an electorate entirely in support of Israel. It is possible to reach people and change minds.

You know what's weird about being American? On the one hand we're soft weak things who can't endure any hardship beyond 2 day delivery from Amazon prime. But also 8 year old set up lemonade stands to pay for their moms cancer treatment

THREAD: The Trump administration's DOJ has removed a study from the NIJ website that found that immigrants, and particularly undocumented immigrants, commit crimes at significantly lower rates than U.S. citizens. The study is at odds with the Trump regime's propaganda about immigrants & crime. (1)

"The left went too far" in contemporary U.S. politics is almost always a lie and a very convenient way to rationalize moral failure. For example, "MeToo went too far" replaces "I do not care about sexual violence or its victims and I don't want to have to even feel bad about that"

Aside from present context, it always seemed to me it had go this way eventually. If American executives can cut out the overhead of paying American labor, American consumers will eventually cut out the overhead of paying American executives.

being gay rules you just walk around being so hot and cool and tasteful and good at things that some dweeb in an ill-fitting suit gets so mad that they go to the state legislature and try to make it illegal

i have argued before that MAGA is recapitulating antebellum pro-slavery ideas about citizenship and bodily autonomy. one thing i am also thinking about, when it comes to the rendition of people to a foreign gulag, is the way it is reminiscent of the kidnapping of free blacks for sale into slavery

Hey, just a quiet reminder: it’s not true that people get more conservative as they age. *Populations* get more conservative as they age because poor and marginalized people die sooner. nymag.com/intelligence...

The lesson: this is what bipartisanship with fascists gets you. Fascist do not care about bipartisanship. If you pursue it with them, they will make a fool of you. There is only defiance and opposition. That’s all any decent people want from their leaders anyway. Those who won’t can gtfo.

@junlper.beer is right about natalism, no question.

I cannot emphasize how useful it is to know about the Cultural Revolution

I always knew conceptually how my family was sent to their death in the Holocaust by friends and countrymen capitulating. But watching it happen in real time so quickly, so easily, with twisted justification and hand waving is putting a whole new spin on understanding the horror they must have felt.

This picture of Whitmer is a legitimately stunningly perfect depiction of the Democratic Party right now. A bunch of fucking cowards capitulating and complying. Secretly totally on board with fascism while hiding behind their labels and “lesser of two evils you have no choice but to vote for me”.

Palantir has been using social media information to help the Israeli military target drone strikes at Palestinian journalists. Over 150 Palestinian journalists have been killed in Gaza. A company willing to enable war crimes is now helping DOGE build a mega API with IRS data.

"He did everything he could to get me out—turning the heat and power off and even putting a hole in my living room wall." "Months in housing court did nothing." "At the time, I didn't know justice was something you could buy." #NewYork #USA #Housing

As we’ve learned from the Prop 13 1978 experience, people will never understand why everything is just worse
