I don't understand how people can't still grasp that allowing a rather large group of our fellow humans to "fall by the wayside", due to Covid, made it acceptable for any arbitrary category of humans to be treated inhumanely.

Before Covid it was common knowledge that any infection during pregnancy, even a minor cold, could affect the development of the fetus in very bad ways.

One of the most irksome part of Vinay Prasad's anti-mask activism, including mocking individuals choosing to wear masks, is that he's an oncologist by training. It was standard before Covid for some patients oncologists treated to need to wear masks.

Just FYI, the solution to this problem is *not* to start a war.

the rest of the world be like

My view is that the public health offices using pseudoscience to justify Covid policies paved the way for the fascist takeover of public health by the likes of RFK Jr. The 🧵 below details one such egregious example of pseudoscience tailored to justify bad policy.

Forgive me for writing a second thread in one day, but this new analysis led by @mark-ungrin.bsky.social deserves your time and attention. osf.io/preprints/me...

Sen. Tammy Duckworth just said on Colbert, "We should all live long enough to develop a disability," & the audience laughed uncomfortably. I can tell you what they were thinking. It was "Not me. That would never happen to me." & the underlying, unacknowlged premise was "b/c I'm better than that."

Been reading about early #ColdWar #Finnish #intelligence #history and man, it’s _wild._ Like, a Social Democrat officer ran the largely privately funded military intelligence, which (among other things) spied upon both the Communists and the civilian security police (SUPO), ...

This is the tragedy of Finnish Cold War military and intelligence history: much of it will likely never be known to the wider public as the success of the ”Finlandisation” strategy depended on it being so convincing that the Soviets believed it to be real.

It is really really sinking in for me the degree to which LLMs are the ultimate expression of right wing anti-intellectualism. Its proponents are literally mocking the idea that anyone would ever want to learn anything, know anything, develop any actual skill, or have a thought of their own.

Sure is. Oh, he meant *in Iran*.

For the sake of your long-term health and that of others, please keep in mind that the New York Times has “safewashed” COVID the same way they’ve “sanewashed” Trump. Same outlet, different lies (often lies of omission).

Masks are under serious threat at being banned widely due to politicization. This would be a public health disaster. If you are only wearing a mask at protests, please consider also wearing them elsewhere. The more people mask, the more we normalize masks and protect them against bans.

This is, for me, where the Nazi/fascist parallels work best. ‘Good’ people did nothing as the awfulness escalated because they were justifiably terrified of getting their heads kicked in or killed. It’s about comparing similar points in the process as opposed to comparing end days with early ones.

Nobody is rioting. Nobody is breaking any laws. These are cops in my city of Las Vegas just assaulting and arresting anyone on Fremont Street who looks at them. This is fascism.

It will be amusing to watch Donald try to persuade Iran to give up their nukes at the same as Donald supports Russia's invasion of a country that gave up their nukes in exchange for a US assurance they wouldn't be invaded. www.axios.com/2025/06/13/t...
