Sean Duffy blames antiquated government email systems for the fact air traffic controllers received "fork in the road" emails offering resignations

Just got word that Secretary Noem is asking for an addition to her budget - a new private Gulfstream 5 jet for her personal national photo op tour. She's already got a private plane but wants a tricked out new one. All while she supports kicking 13 million people off Medicaid.

Punched my urbanist card today by not only biking in Amsterdam, but biking with my baby in a bakfiet. (He rode commuter rail and bus yesterday.) The ubiquity of biking here, among all types, is incredible. (I've never struggled more with crossing and merging into bike traffic.)

wow, wonder who was president when no one was flying during covid?

NYC’s congestion pricing is a policy miracle: Less traffic, less noise, faster transit, more business sales, more transit revenue. And it hasn’t produced the negative effects outside the cordon zone we were afraid of. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Country is my fave kind of music, albeit less mainstream/radio kinds. NPR positively reviewed Blake Shelton's new album and, good Lord, it's terrible, like a parody or ChatGPT version of country music. Maybe NPR is sucking up to the right to stave off funding cuts? www.npr.org/2025/05/11/n...

FINALLY! Carmakers Are Embracing Physical Buttons Again. “Amazingly, reaction times using screens while driving are worse than being drunk or high—no wonder 90% of drivers hate using touchscreens in cars. Finally the auto industry is coming to its senses.” Thanks to @carltonreid.com in @wired.com.

1/2 Just-dismissed Librarian of Congress, Dr. Carla Hayden, has a PhD from U Chicago, is in numerous scholarly societies, has wide acclaim. She is also first African-American to lead LoC. The dismissal note did not say "Dear Dr. Hayden" or "Dear Madame Librarian" or even "Dear Carla."

The president is disappearing people

I wrote a thing for @railstotrails.org www.railstotrails.org/trailblog/20...

I can’t stop watching this.

Leo’s predecessor Leo xiii knew how to party. Also did collabs

“Elmo is open to full-time or freelance roles.”

“We’re being canceled when we say the n-word” *white woman says n-word, people giver her $700,000” “We still feel canceled on the inside”

Obvs w/ a time machine I would support any other VP candidate if it would have meant Harris would have won (hindsight 20/20*), but I supported the Walz pick at the time and I still think he's very appealing and likeable. *I don't think any VP nominee would have changed the outcome.

Discussion in the other place about it being good for everyone when adults' lives don't revolve around kids' activities, and the kids have to learn to deal with adult activities. (I agree!) This one hit me.

Oh, I forgot to share the live chat I did earlier. This was my most illuminating response, I think. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

1/ The US government has ordered the Swedish city of Stockholm to end its diversity, inclusivity and equality (DEI) programmes within 10 days. The city authorities say the demand is "bizarre" and they won't be complying. ⬇️

President Trump said in an interview that aired Sunday that he did not know whether every person on U.S. soil was entitled to due process, as guaranteed by the Fifth Amendment.

Rubio publicly criticizing an ally for cracking down on right-wing extremism. And Germany hitting back. We are in a new world

Can you imagine the pearl-clutching had some sycophantic Democratic Senator suggested that Joe Biden (who is a lifelong practicing -- and never divorced -- Catholic) be the Pope?!?!

BREAKING: Police just surrounded Rev. William Barber, prominent activist and pastor, as he and others prayed in the U.S. Capitol Rontunda. Police then expelled everyone (including press!) from the Rotunda to (presumably) arrest them. I've covered protests here a lot. Never seen anything like it.

For the record, Council Member Chris Banks just said the words that "we all want safety, but parking is more important."

Ooh, I got to ask the person next to me who was watching music videos and other audio in a crowded space at 8 am to please wear headphones. I was polite and they immediately agreed. Feels so good...

I'm intending to dial back activity on here, Twitter, and Threads. Find me on Facebook if you want to stay in touch (DM me if you need that link).

This video shows the fire damage inside the Pennsylvania Governor’s mansion. Governor Shapiro’s reaction to the arson attack is on my timeline.

The suspension of Mr. Reuveni demonstrates that no matter how many ethical breaches a DOJ commits in support of Trump’s fascist actions, they’ll be cast aside if they fail to make the next ethical breach. I urge every DOJ attorney to do the right thing the first time they’re commanded to do evil.

Cool, Pritzker is here today!

Manhattan Beach is hosting a community forum on its Residential Overlay District, which allows development of mixed-use and multifamily on commercial properties by-right. 3 projects have been proposed totaling 371 units. NIMBYs are throwing a fit. www.manhattanbeach.gov/departments/...
