Just learned that Dr. Seuss drew this in 1941 www.artsy.net/article/arts...

I wrote a post about the Klan 100 years ago and how the grip they held on the US seemed impossible to break, but people fought them anyway. And it’s been read by tens of thousands of you (!!!). I guess people want stories of hope right now. dansinker.com/posts/202…

Today would have been my dear friend John Lewis's 85th birthday. In times like these, we ought to look to John's example — his unflinching courage in standing up for what was right. I miss John every day. Let's honor him by continuing his fight.

So. It has officially happened. I have been officially let go from my position at CDC. I wasn’t a probationary employee. I had stellar performance reviews every year. I’ll be ok. But please understand that many worked HARD to get into these positions and were doing great public health work.

Goddamnit, #BrokenPost, it's not "anti-woke." It's FASCISM. With this framing you only justify the FASCISTS' -- Putin's and Trump's -- propaganda. Putin raised the anti-woke banner long before it flew over Washington www.washingtonpost.com/world/2025/0...

Maybe Dems could talk to voters about this? Or do highly paid consultants not like opposing persecution of Christians?

Trump: I AM A KING! NYT: Trump displays a "fondness for regal themes"

in his statement "cancelling" congestion pricing, sean duffy calls people who ride the subway "an elite few" and i just feel as a communication professional that they gotta decide if they're going with that or crime-ridden drug den homeless shelter

I sincerely doubt any journalist of color I know would be allowed to write "I didn't know this important aspect of US history and read the Wikipedia summary of it to catch up" in a prominent newsletter read by every important person in the nation's capital

If this were France, farmers would be blocking every highway with tractors by now, teachers would be on strike, garbage wouldn't be picked up, unions would be on strike 24/7, there would be mass protests in every city, everything would be at a standstill.

I mean yes, that’s what that’s called

On Feb. 14th I try always to give honor to one of the greatest contributors to American democracy in our nation’s history, Frederick Douglass. Born into slavery, Douglass never knew his actual birthdate, and adopted Feb. 14th as the day. His penetrating insights about our country inspire me daily.

Look this sucks but news outlets need to start realizing there's limited journalistic value in sitting in a room and letting a person behind a podium lie to you. You're not holding anyone to account when you do that.

“And so we will not participate in….oh, no, wait, never mind.”

Sassoon:

Today is a good day to cancel the DC socials that have media/politicians/celebs mix. Not the time for it.

You know, the rest of the White House Press Corps could collectively decide to not attend briefings, pressers, or pools until their AP colleagues are reinstated with access, but that would take a modicum of courage and integrity in this moment, wouldn't it?

It should be a source of profound embarrassment that a bunch of FedSoc lifers are taking a more vocal and principled stand against the corrupt Eric Adams deal than most elected Dems.

Any news organization that relies on AP Style - but makes this exception to avoid conflict with POTUS ought to also feel bad about itself.

Remember, if you see anyone *else* reporting from the Oval Office or Air Force One, that person is a spineless scab.

A day late to this. A lot of newsrooms should pin it to cubicle walls. open.substack.com/pub/thefucki...

AP's still banned and the rest of the White House press corps leaves them hanging. I honestly don't get it. Didn't they all rally around Fox News a couple years ago?

My response to Democratic members of Congress who are upset because "people keep calling our office" is that I will simply call more.

Fact check: True, every dang day.

I'm been thinking about an essay called "First they came for the critical race theorists" for a while and it might be time.

Thomson Reuters has won the first major AI copyright case in the US. The decision has big implications for the battle between generative AI companies and rightsholders.

Occam’s Razor says yes.

The AP must refuse this but more importantly the rest of the White House Correspondents Association should back them. Boycott the press briefings until they relent, and if they refuse, walk out. There is no real use to them in any case. Trump craves attention. Deny him that and he’ll cave.

So stop trying to get in. Every self-respecting news org except pool video should boycott until White House retreats. There’s no honest q-and-a anyway. Watch the video, report if merited. apnews.com/article/trum...

From NY Mag takedown of Pamela Paul. nymag.com/intelligence...

Vaccines are good. That's not an opinion, it's a fact. Gender affirming care is good. That's not an opinion, it's a fact. "But big pharma!" misses the forest for the trees. The problem with big pharma isn't the medicines. Medicines and vaccines are good! It's the price they charge for them.

I wrote this bit that is entirely unrelated to current things

Can you imagine university presidents at state schools who have been fighting since they day they took the job to increase federal research funding to offset a generations-long dip in state subsidies for tuition? Rug pull, and nowhere else to turn.

I stand with the trans community. Pass it along.

A blind man is raising concerns about Indiana gun laws after he was allowed to get a license to carry a handgun

Now more than ever.
