On Feb. 14th I try always to give honor to one of the greatest contributors to American democracy in our nation’s history, Frederick Douglass. Born into slavery, Douglass never knew his actual birthdate, and adopted Feb. 14th as the day. His penetrating insights about our country inspire me daily.

There is just so much to say about him, and how much he contributed. We were so lucky he escaped from slavery and had the opportunity to become the man he was.

Then you can really feel Douglass as one of us. Yeah, I said that.
What’s important is that his story highlights the horrors of slavery, where enslaved children could be owned, sold, or abused by their own fathers.
the dude also had an incredible head of hair. I mean absolutely no disrespect, but damn. That’s good hair✌️

Susan B. Anthony was pretty damned awful. Douglass was always a class act!
