18F is *precisely* what Musk and team claim should exist within government. But when his team found it, they destroyed it, because it is evidence that government works well (can’t have that!), and because like Zelensky, 18F didn’t bend the knee.

for all trans travelers it requires an issued visa to be under sex at birth and the officer is required to find that out to their satisfaction before issuing, demanding they try clocking which is naturally all kinds of racist and bad for everyone. 5/8

Somewhere along the way, many software developers got “captured” by the idea of disrupting as a core value.
To build lasting value for society is antithetical to Silicon Valley’s investment methodology.
It requires engineering leaders that move steadily and strengthen communities.

As an industry, we still overvalue typing on keyboards and then wonder why strong engineers get laid off, great products get trashed, or why companies end up being evil, actually.
Good people, good products, and good companies need good leaders. And that shouldn't be confused with good engineers.

meta is forcing trans staff to use the wrong restrooms, the government is saying they'll help sue businesses that accommodate trans employees, like idk what to tell you, it is happening for sure, but it's not happening to you!

I’ll posit that a “shared understanding of governance models” already exists but isn’t evenly distributed.
There’s a reason no one has built it — like OSS licenses, there are many nuanced differences, and the texts of each evolve over time.
Rather than start anew, maybe build an index of ‘em?

Succession planning is essential to project longevity & avoidance of the BDFL trap.
That was built that into OpenStack’s governance and then refined in Kubernetes … :)
