I knew about the Partition because I am old enough to remember East Pakistan ( and that disaster of a war.) Details are pretty sketchy, but I was still preteen... Vietnam was complicated enough at my age.

I beg your pardon - they are real bodegas in Washington Heights and the Lower East Side. Spanish speaking neighborhoods I've known my whole life...

Last week we had a hyper local vote ( school budget.) When I went to the machine to put in my paper ballot, the woman told me it would make a sound when it was tallied. It clunked! Not the full satisfaction of pulling the lever, but still - clunk! I commented, she agreed happily - it felt right!

There are all beef hot dogs - which of course would particularly offend the Hindus as it would be clearly prioritizing the concerns of one group over the other.

No, no, no. Sackcloth and ashes.

Oh, that's hard when you're 3 and it's a long time to the next game, never mind the season! But it is one of the less painful ways to start learning that life lesson.

I suspect it translates to "I don't waste my time on baseball." And means "I don't pay attention to people in NYC." I know plenty of people who don't follow the sport but know who they want in a Subway Series. Also - "Knicks" would actually be acceptable... even "Rangers." With evidence.

Sure it does. It helps Trump. So if that's *not* your goal...

For the past several months, I’ve been talking to folks on the other side of the country about warnings for a different unprecedented and utterly devastating disaster —the deadliest inland hurricane on record—Hurricane Helene. propub.li/4jl3dGg

But you have to be a New Yorker my age or older to remember them ( though I was too little to reach them before they were replaced with metal. Some 60 years ago, I think?)

Yes, that one fascinates me. "Tell me you haven't a clue..."

Yeah, I saw that was happening. Sort of taken aback.

Look for them in podcasts, too. I had insomnia some 15 years ago, and I came across some then. ( First time I ever heard of binaural beats!)

That actually makes a whole lot of sense. Fascinating.

Or that they might personally be good parents - but not in the circumstances they are in (which they cannot - or do not want to - change.)

It's New York City. You should totally have pipers.

I agree that he totally believes it. But I don't think that means he isn't being manipulated by others with their own agendas.

And he sure did.

I do wonder who they think are filing the court cases being decided. A judge can't just arbitrarily decide to rule on things that haven't been brought to court - and that takes time and lawyers. And legal standing. People are arranging court cases.

When we got cable, it was Spectrum. News coverage was good - if you lived in Syracuse - but in theory, they covered half the state, from PA to Canada. And many of the farmers can't get cable anyway. And you need local news, too. People say "they see the same news we do" but no, they do not.

And it's not just Fox. Here in Syracuse both the CBS and NBC affiliates are owned by Sinclair. And the only channels I get, 30 miles away in the country, are 2 Fox affiliates. (I watch baseball, they're the equivalent of channels 5 and 11 in the NYC market.)

I feel like I spent 2020 telling friends around the country that he wasn't as good as they thought. At All.

Same in Central New York. Piles of snow in the yard, lots of ice!
