The Starmer aide/AI stuff feels a bit canary/coalmine because this isn't letting electoral factors triumph over good governance or sinply doing something I don't like - things every government does - this is falling for a scam. There are people in Nunber 10 who are just idiots.

I think I've figured out what Starmer's govt reminds me of...

Really important and moving account of state failure in this weekend's @financialtimes.com that is free to read for all here:

As someone opposed to international fascism, it is obvious that Ukrainian victory is a moral imperative. If you oppose fascism, you have to oppose Russia, in its current form. (also, note the use of the word "remigration") hopenothate.org.uk/2025/02/10/e...

Most Ukrainian cities have not been destroyed. Ukrainian law prohibits holding elections in wartime (unlike the US Constitution, which requires it). isw.pub/UkraineFacts...

Anyway, this is also a major concern I have about the upcoming travails. Like, fundamentally, a government that has this attitude, that handled WFP how they did, is not one I can trust to protect the most vulnerable in society. (or, indeed, to actually win a war, if it comes to it)

The thing that gets me is that the PM and his circle clearly still think that they're absolute political geniuses, political giants who will remake this country for the better (and the [surviving] little folk will come round in the end, anyway).

So, you know how Drake dropped last week... www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

lmao, jesus

One of the biggest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world just lost $1.4 billion (with a B) to a hack. This is 5x as much as the previous largest exchange hack in history.

calling what trump is doing in ukraine appeasement is excessively kind to trump and grotesquely unfair to chamberlain et al. for all his faults, chamberlain wasnt rooting for hitler.

I know it's not that relevant but 'Striking down statute by fiat' is in fact considerably more power than the British King even theoretically has

A number of prominent UK Conservatives' statements about Donald Trump resemble one of those news stories that begins with a magazine feature about a new age mystic who believes he can talk to bears and ends with a newspaper article about a new age mystic being mauled to death by bears.

Another day, another North American plane crash - though, incredibly, it seems like everyone survived this one. Yes, the plane is upside-down in the preview image. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

As an EastEnders 40th birthday thing, here’s me pointing at the tiny tube map on the set at Elstree, revealing that Walford East takes the place of Bromley-By-Bow on the District Line.

"coffee is only good when it is served in jim crow conditions"

I mean, it's not even the biggest example of Reeves's, uh, tendency to exaggerate her intellectual achievements, given how she handled 'writing' her book.

Okay, it is very funny seeing the "how dare you attack the most qualified Chancellor ever!!" response to the BBC's reporting on... Rachel Reeves exaggerating her experience. (I mean, the story's over-egged - it's not even as bad as the war on newts - but man that's a terrible choice of Line)

Is it time to put tariffs on Teslas? 🚗 Liberal Democrat Leader @eddavey.libdems.org.uk will tell Robert Peston why on tonight’s show #Peston

I genuinely did not think it was possible for the Labour Party’s comms to get worse, but here we all are.

Its good that in the year 2025 someone can still do a proper doge meme

Typical BMW driver behaviour, tbh (okay, that's an exaggeration, but I swear, like, 90% of terrible drivers I see are in BMWs or Audis) www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

This is huge. My petition got approved. It challenges the UK government to the lift the Puberty Blocker ban on the grounds that it contradicts article 8 of The United Nations Convention On The Rights Of The Child. Please sign and Repost ✊️🏳️‍⚧️ petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70...
