It's not a huge mistake - using private chat that isn't a part of the federal communications systems wasn't a mistake at all in their eyes - it was purely intentional and part of Proj 2025. They want to communicate outside of official channels, so that the information is not subject to FOIA acts.

There's a cost to that "savings" as well. Jobs don't get dime, services don't get provided, and Americans suffer in the end. But on paper someone "saved".

Numerous industries will suffer without migrant labor, not just the ones that Elon Musk cares about. Deporting migrants will severely gut the construction industry, food, farming, hotels, cleaning services, landscaping services, on and on. These aren't jobs that Americans want to do, or will do.

It benefits both Trump and Musk for this "office" to remain unofficial. Musk can be the go-between for Trump & Putin and not have to worry about any government oversight or Intelligence involvement or any other guardrail that an ethical President would want in place.
