siiiiiiiiiiiiggghhhhhh

Preliminary number of NSF grants to be terminated today is ~600, per sources. Including last week's cluster, this would put the total around 1,000.

This dude has more reversals and flip-flops than any human creature that’s ever walked the Earth.

For years, research was focused on men, limiting our understanding of how illness can differ between women and men, but also for women’s health in general. I ask you: how is taking away funding for projects to study health concerns achieve the HHS Secretary’s goals of “making us healthy again”?

you know things are bad when the tech magazines are putting this out

And all of the questions posed by the letter relate directly to basic issues of editorial judgment that lie at the core of 1st Amendment protections”... www.statnews.com/2025/04/18/t...

NEW: The entire NIH payment system is currently frozen for all grantees. This is tied to DOGE’s new “Defend the Spend” caper, reported in today’s Post, which has already led to payment cutoffs to doctors and health workers at hospitals treating the poor.

RFK Jr. is very loud and very WRONG about Autism. 1. It’s not a disease 2. There are thousands of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder who pay taxes, have jobs, can use the bathroom on their own, and are thriving in life.

Tax Day next up: NSF! 🛰️ $40 a year. That’s what the average U.S. taxpayer pays annually to fund the National Science Foundation. 💡 Science isn’t luxury - it’s infrastructure. From disaster prediction to cybersecurity to the tech in your phone, NSF powers the systems that keep society running.

Trump is targeting universities. Instead of speaking out forcefully and cracking open their endowments to cover any shortfalls, most top schools have hunkered down, and even, in Columbia’s case, cut a deal with the administration. Why? @michaelmechanic.bsky.social tried to figure it out.

Another $2.6 billion in cuts to NIH are coming by next Tuesday www.statnews.com/2025/04/03/n... The shredded image fits

well the NIA SEP I was supposed to chair at the end of January, that was "postponed", has fully disappeared from IAR now.

BREAKING: We're sending an open letter to universities across the country, offering support and urging them to reject pressure to punish international students and faculty for exercising their First Amendment rights. Schools must hold firm against the Trump administration's censorship attempts.

Your work is being erased

Your silence will not save you.

When he said “I have a concept of a plan” about healthcare, he meant: 1. Gut Medicare and Medicaid 2. Halt NIH funding and clinical trials 3. Stop vaccine development 4. Prevent transgender care

Donald Trump is embarrassing the United States on the world stage. We are a country that stands up to dictators and fights for democracy. Minnesota stands firmly with our allies in Ukraine.

In San Diego County, 1 in 6 people rely on Medicaid. That's why I hosted a Medicaid roundtable in El Cajon yesterday to hear directly from people who these cuts will impact. This isn't a faceless program – cutting Medicaid would do serious harm.

200 million dollars of waste.

This article provides a helpful summary and @katiew.bsky.social is quoted!!

“We’re fucked.” Good write-up in Nature on how the current administration has used the Federal Register as a workaround to block NIH spending without seeming to violate the injunction against the spending freeze. If it’s not rectified by September, billions of $$ for science research will be lost.

1. Help: NIH study sections and council meetings not already published in the Federal Register as of Jan. 21 have not been allowed to meet (thetransmitter.org/funding/fede...). This appears to be an 'end run' around a recent injunction and came from HHS officials. You can help (see below):

Scoop --> Trump-Musk cuts just resulted in the firing of numerous top researchers at NIH's center for combating Alzheimer's, sources tell me. They predict big setbacks to fighting dementias. This cause was once championed by *Republicans.* Details here: newrepublic.com/article/1917...
