I wouldn't go as far as "representative", but I think "suggestive" is fair. A religious movement is more likely to end up a theocracy, a cult of personality is more likely to end up autocratic, and so on.

Except it literally is that straightforward. If you want a little actual moral nuance, go look at the Eastern Front. The Nazis were initially greeted as liberators in some areas for a reason. It's fine to append "but we did some bad things" to "we were the good guys", but not to erase it entirely.

There's plenty of clues though, and it's not unreasonable to make some guesses. For example, Hamas seems to have pretty solid internal election processes, which result in regular turning over of leadership. That speaks well of their democratic instincts, especially compared to e.g. Likud.

Yes, but facts are important. =)

That's not actually correct - voting is handled at the state level, while Treasury is a federal office. While the same people might try for both for the same evil reasons, they're two unrelated systems requiring different authority to compromise.

Even in that case they're not seated until 2027. =)

It's simple. They just want a return to the golden era of the American social order, when children were obedient, wives stayed at home, and husbands were free to share classified operational details of imminent military actions with their spouses over nongovernmental communications systems.

For purposes of sharing secret war plans, I can be your friend if you'd like!

Genuinely not sure if you're trying to seriously support the comically misinformed point we're all here to dunk on, but by the time the US formally declared war, lend lease had been running for about 9 months already. Hell, even the Soviets were added 3 months before the battle of Moscow!

Does being homeless count? I think it probably does. It's well behind me now but it certainly reset my expectations. The advice isn't bad, though. It's not good for you or your dependents to spend your whole time worrying, even when those worries are very legitimate. Try to find fun where you can.

It's so weird. I like women, I thought that was supposed to be normal for straight guys? Isn't that supposed to be our main defining thing compared to gay guys?

Is ICE currently kicking down your door? Do you not know how and when you're getting your next meal? If no to this and similar questions then you're safe for now and can have a laugh at something silly.

Honestly I can barely believe it myself.

The tech isn't quite there yet, but every day it gets a little closer.

Tell them it's more than one, and unironically thank them for their service!

like trump's primary obstacle to building anything is that he's a huge asshole and everyone hates him he's also apocalyptically self-interested and doesn't give a shit about consequences! this man would sell enriched uranium TO iran for the naming rights on a golf course and some shiny marbles

"Our 'way of life' is under attack and therefore we vote for concentration camps and complete economic suicide" is a complete and total extinction-level event for the notion that we have to give a shit about these peoples' 'way of life' ever again, electorally or otherwise.

And then do more of it? Because you're really selling it here.

Wait wait next porridge-brains is going to jump in and make the point that the Atlantic slave trade isn't the same as the *Trans*Atlantic slave trade, and then find some way of being a TERF about that distinction. πŸ™„

Wow, that would be a terrible thing to say. Who said that? I think you must have QS'd the wrong skeet.

A proper propaganda effort incorporating all the right elements, including describing it as not being charity, working to support the "traditional American way of life" etc etc should be able to lubricate society enough to prevent the system from seizing up. This can be done, we just need to do it.

We outnumber them and can outspend them. We can improve their lives whether or not they want to admit they need it. If we (nebulous) were in charge, they'd all have free* healthcare and education and transportation options and good union jobs and so on and so forth.

It's a lot easier to get the new generation to stay (or move back) when they're only an hour and a half from a town or city with some opportunities in it. And the small towns can then draw city people out to touch grass, providing tourism money too. Connectivity is freedom.
comment in response to post
So am I. We're going to need plenty of *stuff* built, so a new version of the TVA would spur a lot of demand. Most of those small towns can and should be connected to their local cities with fast electric trains, which would let them become bedroom communities if that suits them.

As I understand it they don't have to make a new law, they just have to issue a "no it isn't" to the president's declaration of an emergency he can issue tariffs for.

No no that's legit, diesel is a great thing to use since you have to lug it around anyway. They did the same on submarines.
