It's only a short one, from 2022. It was just a short run thing but could be helpful. open.spotify.com/show/279qISC...

I met a totally unprepared couple in torrential rain on Comic Hill a few years ago. He was wearing trainers, she was wearing sandals. It was October. It wasn't even a nice day to start with. No waterproof clothing at all. She did at least have an umbrella, or at least the remains of one...

There is a similar pheasant corner near Aberfeldy. Always a couple of them at the same bend in the road...

I've tried the seats a few times and couldn't sleep. It was genuinely awful (but cheaper than a normal ticket to London). Are the bunk rooms any good? I'm willing to risk it if it works.

A few days (weeks) off might help you see the wood for the trees.

Yay! Go you!!
I put it down for 4 weeks, then started reading it again to prepare my presentation. Found a few errors (also picked up by my examiners). Read it again the week before the viva. (Which was +ve, felt good about my writing).
Find what works for you and your research?
Good luck!!

Just added this to my watch list. I'm interested to know how how this relates to the situation we now find ourselves in and despite knowing what the wider landscape has looked like for the last 30+ years I'm interest to see a historian's perspective.

I'm doing an analysis of the language used in two professional publications over the last decade, non peer-reviewed, to examine how the language used has shaped professional identity.

This doesn't seem weird to me. It resonates with a textual approach to hermeneutics? I guess I know what I have to do. Lots to do. (This isn't for my PhD, but a follow-up project...)

Congratulations! Similar positions, corrections confirmed this week too. Advice I've been given is to try and identify 2-3 papers to journals of different levels. Look at what they're currently publishing; style & approach. My supervisors have been positive on how they can help expand.

I'm looking to do some textual analysis of about 10 years' worth of magazines. Is there any software you would recommend for analysis. I've found one which will pull the text but I think I'd rather see the text as it was printed to keep it in the original visual context.

I've had to take a step back from following from across the pond, for my mental health. Trying to focus on what is within my sphere of influence. It is painful. My best friend is trans. My work is in social sustainability. I see my 82yo father's eyes looking at the reprise of fascism and it aches.

...and I now have to wait a further month for another exam board before my degree is confirmed. I appreciate that there are processes to be followed but despite all of the congratulations from my peers and my team I still feel unable to celebrate. Limbo sucks. #PhDSky

Unsolicited advice welcome!
One of the chapters makes for a nice self contained article and I guess I should start there, but the others...not so easy!

In this case it might well have been created by AI. The mistakes in the dates etc might be a good indicator. As does the lack of any narrative content you mentioned. AIs do seem to like lists of facts...

This is used by bad actors who will create books of gibberish which can be purchased by others for the purpose of transferring funds to the "author".

It's not Amazon. Self publishing authors can list books through Amazon. This isn't itself is not a bad thing because it allows new authors to get published. The problem is there is no QC on the sell side and so noone except the buyer knows whether it is any good.

The Amazon AI book market has been alive and well for some time, I use it in training for financial crime prevention. To be honest you're lucky the book even contained anything at all. (I have read your review, and appreciate you calling out the lack of sensitivity and scholarship)

Makes you realise just how small we are. A star field of galaxies, with the light from a galaxy distorted by a cluster of galaxies. My little mind is blown.
