More turmoil at DOJ as another senior prosecutor resigns rather than obey a lawless order. I’ll discuss with Joy Reid on MSNBC at 7 pm ET.

How much is Congress cutting from their $6.5 billion/year budget? Don’t you think congress can operate on say, maybe, $5 Billion? And each congressman has 18 staff, they could operate on say, 14? What about the White House?

In 1989 (during the Reagan/Bush era), I worked with a USAID subcontractor to design a sewer treatment plant in Cairo. As witness, I observed how it positively impacted the perception of the U.S.—Reagan agreed.

How do we even know that Elon's DOGE hackers aren't using their computer skills to peel money off of everyone's Social Security accounts? WE DON'T KNOW. There is no transparency. All we know is Elon's goal was to *find* 2 trillion dollars without touching Social Security, and that's impossible.

BREAKING: Denise Cheung, head of the criminal division in the D.C. U.S. Attorney’s Office, resigned after refusing a Justice Department order to freeze $20 billion in climate funds. In her resignation letter, she revealed that Trump officials had pressured her to launch a baseless criminal probe

Even worse incompetence: they accidentally fired, then apparently today un-fired, hundreds of the people who manage America's nuclear weapons.

If you wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, you would empower the inspectors general. If you wanted more waste, fraud, and abuse, you would fire them.

"Law and order" in the Trump era: if you bow down to the head of the U.S. government, he may help you - whether you're awaiting trial for sex crimes in Europe or doing time in the USA for physically assaulting police.

I am not making this up: Republicans have introduced legislation… to increase your bank fees.

Hagan Scotten, who wrote this spectacular resignation letter, was an army ranger for 8 years, top of his law school class (Harvard) & a John Roberts law clerk. Not exactly a candidate for Trump’s liberal deep state.

Man...he literally nuked them from orbit. Thank God some people still remember their duty.

If Pam Bondi wants to dismiss the Eric Adams indictment, she can just do it herself. She is the attorney general, she doesn’t need to have a line prosecutor do it for her. But they want to be able to say a career person did it.

Article 1, Section 1 of the Constitution: "All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States." The claim that the Founders vested all power in the executive is a reality inverting, piss-on-my-leg-and-tell-me-it's-raining lie. That's what they rebelled against.

Hagan Scotten’s letter is excellent and only one page long. Read it! Send it around!

A line prosecutor did this. Whats wrong with the GOP that they can’t? www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

👀

"No system of ordered liberty can allow the Government to use the carrot of dismissing charges, or the stick of threatening to bring them again, to induce an elected official to support its policy objectives."

Don’t forget: It’s a convicted felon and litigated sexual assaulter whose company was found guilty of fraud and who was first elected to the White House with covert Moscow assistance who’s trying to destroy much of the federal government and impose authoritarian rule.

AOC: The House is governed by a Republican majority. The Senate is governed by a Republican majority, and The White House has a Republican president. And if they want to pass their agenda, Republicans need to conjure up the votes to pass their own bills.

Holy shit this cartoon.

J.D. Vance must’ve thought he was scoring points by saying “Judges aren't allowed to control the executive's legitimate power," but of course controlling abuses of that power is exactly what Federal Judges must do — and what Judge Engelmayer did in this very case. search.app/hHJJWzMXS2f2...

There’s a false narrative out there that as president, Trump can do whatever he wants with the executive branch. False! Congress has passed laws creating agencies, appropriating funds, and crafting procedures. Constitution requires President to “take care that the laws be faithfully executed.”

Rachel Maddow followed up on the scoop from @dfriedman.bsky.social and me that revealed Kash Patel was paid $25,000 last year by a filmmaker directly tied to Kremlin propaganda and disinformation operations for his participation in an anti-FBI documentary. www.youtube.com/watch?v=3pMt...

Gillibrand on WNYC today said one reason they're all falling in line is that they get death threats.

aging well, sadly

The WSJ last April. The WSJ today. 🇺🇸

From Kate Conger’s book “Character Limit” on how Musk ruined Twitter.

It is notable that Big Law is completely absent from the legal fights to protect democracy. In 2017, they bragged about their pro bono work for the resistance. Now, they are silent -presumably cowering in fear of Trump and Musk. Support the non-profit law orgs and small firms doing this hard work.

Resistance is not futile because it is up to us to make certain that this “government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from this earth.” www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnb...

Mexico and Canada just gave a masterclass in handling Trump: let him brag, give him a face-saving win, and walk away having conceded nothing. The Big Picture unpacks how this strategy could keep him in check on the world stage.

BREAKING: we have secured an order that BLOCKS the government from releasing the names of the 6000 FBI agents being illegally targeted by Trump & Bondi for their lawful work on the January 6 cases! A big win by @sddaction.bsky.social & our incredible partners for rule of law & the FBI

Around 35% of SpaceX’s revenue comes directly from the federal govt. Less than 1% of NPR’s budget comes from the federal govt.

Two years ago I warned everyone not to embrace Brad Raffensperger as some sort of hero. Now he is sucking up to MAGA. www.democracydocket.com/opinion/brad...

Our democracy is burning yet these Sen Dems just voted 2 confirm another nominee 4 the Trump regime (Collins as VA Sec) Bennet Blumenthal Cortez Masto Durbin Fetterman Gallego Gillibrand Hassan Heinrich Hickenlooper Kaine Klobuchar Lujan Ossoff Peters Rosen Schiff Shaheen Slotkin Warnock Welch

🚨BREAKING: Senate confirms election denier Pam Bondi Attorney General over the no votes of 46 Democrats. She will usher in an era of political prosecutions. We all must be prepared. Subscribe to Democracy Docket to stay informed for free. www.democracydocket.com/me-subscribe...

Musk & Trump are now backing deporting natural born US citizens that they deem "dangerous" ... how quickly we went from criminal undocumented immigrants to literally anyone.

This.

Good piece from @anandwrites.bsky.social

NEW: Trump used the last four years to turn the GOP into an anti-democratic war machine — and he is not finished. If we are to preserve democracy, we must take the threat Trump poses to our elections literally and seriously, writes @marcelias.bsky.social.

Listen closely to Lawrence O’Donnell’s account of the astonishing break-in Trump’s Treasury Secretary has allowed Elon Musk to pull off: youtu.be/BIOaxR_UHIQ?...

The start of week three:

HOLY SHIT!! Rep. Kamlager-Dove: “It is total corruption for an unelected unqualified billionaire like Elon Musk to…take control of our government to have access… of the information we use when we are trying to get a motherfucking tax return.”
