As part of the @vapor.codes Vapor 5 work I've just finished migrating all the tests (all 517) to Swift Testing. So much nicer to write, easier to reason about and as an added bonus the test suite takes 13s instead of the minute before because they're parallel by default 🎉

How and why Things app migrated their backend from Python to Swift. The performance improvement lead to 3x reduction in compute costs on AWS Fargate. Read the full story here 👉 https://swift.org/blog/how-swifts-server-support-powers-things-cloud/

Just in time for Follow Friday, we're live @swift.org. And with a post about how popular task manager Things now powers their app front to back with #swift. www.swift.org/blog/how-swi...

So the subway should be free. Got it.

This… seems like a self own? Let us take responsibility for that watery crap.

I'm happy to say #swiftlang will be posting news to Mastodon and Bluesky starting soon. forums.swift.org/t/social-med...

I have abandoned all efforts to not refer to our steam deck as “the switch”.

US federal government as a share of total employment

“They've added a fixed-size inline-stored array type to Swift as well as the dynamic heap-allocated one? Why must they make it so complicated, unlike Objective-C" is a form of irony I have been enjoying lately.

That the app is called Bluesky but the website is bsky is a cause of constant confusion for me. The struggle is real.

The annual Bay Area deluge always reminds me of this sketch youtu.be/rNdrgjjsHsM

Working on Windows and my skills have atrophied badly in 10 years. I need a big list of how to do things in cmd.exe I do all the time in Terminal e.g. "open ." to open Finder here: start . start of cmd then ^r to search history: F8 whatcha got? p.s. tell me to use powershell and I'll block you

Meet the new member of the swiftlang GitHub org - swift-build. It’s the build system used by Xcode, supports Linux and Windows, and starts a new roadmap for more powerful unified builds for SwiftPM on all platforms. GitHub.com/swiftlang/swift-build

Kicking off our #FOSDEM #Swift devroom, @parisinbmore.bsky.social has some exciting news. Apple is open sourcing the Xcode build system, with cross-platform support, as swift-build.

There's lots of #Swift content at #FOSDEM this year, starting with Doug Gregor on the main track at 12:00 CET talking about Swift's incremental adoption approach to memory safety. If you didn't make it to Brussels, you can stream it here: fosdem.org/2025/schedul...

Writing services in Swift means that my biggest ask of AWS is to offer ECS task sizes even *smaller* than 0.25vCPU+0.5GB memory. I'm processing the full Bluesky ~1000rps firehose (Jetstream, so JSON, not even CBOR) on one tiny instance and I'm only using <5% of the available memory 🫢 #swiftlang

Only a few weeks till #FOSDEM! Make sure to plan to check out the #Swift track and/or the Swift talks the main and FreeJava tracks! Swift DevRoom: fosdem.org/2025/schedul... See you there! #oss

The #Swift team at Apple is hiring Windows engineers! We have a number of roles focused on improving the experience of using the Swift language and tools on Microsoft (and other) platforms. These roles would be based in our City of London office, with two days remote.

To everyone surprised to see Trump and Obama sharing a joke with each other at a meeting even though you know they hate each other… have you people never worked in an office?

And another New Year #swiftlang proposal, a way to optimize generic functions: forums.swift.org/t/pitch-expl...

I am constantly insulted on this platform.

I like spending time with colleagues while on work travel but if I find out they are on the same flight I would rather cancel the ticket and swim the Atlantic instead than risk them having the seat next to me.

it was a real goof to put lights on the evil stealth drones tbh

denied my request for a tree with only lights on it for the 18th year in a row

If somehow they get bitcoin to replace the dollar as a reserve currency it would be a US economic self-own that would make Brexit look prudent.

Valley clowns really are going to tear it all down to make sure they get an good exit on their crypto investments. www.wsj.com/finance/regu...

The boy has asked for a steam deck, but I know nothing about steam decks or PC games or gaming PCs. Anything I should know?

I probably needed more supervision when buying a Christmas tree than just bringing along one of the kids (the less cautious more pro huge tree one)
