Something that can drive otherwise apparently good hearted people to just not see stereotypes and prejudices as a deal breaker. Maybe it is a moral value they don't share, maybe it's fear.
I'm not a sociologist and I can't explain it. I wish I could. And sorry for the rant. It's a heavy time.

And I have a deep seated urge to say something smug about America's democracy being so readily undermined by prejudice but this country voted in such large numbers for Geert Wilders that his party now dominates parliament just a year ago.
It's not America, it's something else.

As recently as the 1960s being Catholic was one of the major attack angles used on JFK. And journalists asked "Is America ready for a Catholic president" the same way they asked if America was ready for a black president in 2008.
And about every woman candidate ever.

But in America protestants have an underserved "good guys" reputation largely built on the social dominant position they hold. After all the big southern slavery families were all direct line descendants of the Scottish protestant movement John Knox begat.

Reminds me Stephen Jay Gold's famous remark: I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein’s brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

So, in short, there is no such thing as a logically consistent language.

Flagrantly failing at two of the things I just told you Afrikaans people literally boasts about our language having, and we break them both in probably the single most commonly used word in the language !
And then for some reason we ADD a double negative as the only correct form.
comment in response to

In this language the MOST widely use word is the non-specific article, the equivalent of of the English "a/an". Derived from the Dutch "een' - but Afrikaans shortened it to JUST the vowel sound so it comes out "uh". But it's WRITTEN "'n" apostrophe n. We SAY only the vowel, write only the consonant

there are only two articles and only three tenses and only one set of conjugations for the verb to be that are used universally regardless of subject.
No "I am" "you are", 'he is' here - it's "Ek is", "Jy is", "hy is"... about as logical as any language can be and yet

Then again, when as language ever been sensible. Afrikaans BOASTS about being the most modern and sensible and logical language there is, partly based on being the youngest non-constructed language in the world. It has no silent letters. The grammar is simplified and consistent

All Germanic languages have a specific article (and some like Dutch have multiple that apply to different nouns quite arbitrarily) - and that is STILL just as confusing even if you do have the word, because the specific article REVERSING the meaning is not sensible at all :P

No, because there is not a shred of scientific evidence that autogynephelia exists and a fucking mountain of evidence that it doesn't.
It's just transphobic bullshit that morons agree with.

Saying Nazi shit is free speech but criticising Nazi shit is censorship.

What kind of a fucking moron thinks the holocaust was NOT caused by a propaganda ?

Fuck off. Then fuck off some more. Then keep fucking off some more and then fuck off again.

Yes, and in fairness, McDonald had also later apologised for his past transphobia and changed his mind.
It doesn't make it right that it happened, but it's better than never changing a bad thing.

Setting it up isn't that hard, but you're going to be keeping very important, personal data in this thing, you REALLY want it secure.
How sure are you that ISP router of yours doesn't have any major unpatched exploits ?
comment in response to
post
That's not the hard part, the annoying part is setting up DynDNS of some kind, then keeping it all secure.
Alternatively I suppose one could go lan-only, but then you can't access any of your stuff unless you are home. if you are using the groupware features, you really want those on the go ?

Though actually doing self hosting with modern day routers are a pain

Thanks,
I guess instead of playing KCD2 I'll be spending Saturday moving my family's email provider, figuring out a photo storage and a VPN provider.
Well maybe I can at least save some money since tuta is significantly cheaper.

Okay, I guess I need to investigate tuta

Yeah that's just utterly nonsensical bullshit.
Republicans have literally destroyed the existing jurisprudence that there was an implied right to privacy in the constitution - they had to, to overturn Roe and Casey.
Republicans destroyed privacy in America.

The bigger chore actually is replacing proton drive and VPN - both of which are included in the subscription.

I didn't know about that. Damn. This however is why I chose to get my own domain. If I change email providers again there is no forwarding or anything, own domain is the number portability of email

Murena's website only lists FP3 and FP4 as supported devices for e/OS installer - though since it's definitely SHIPPED on FP5's it may be worth trying, the website might be out of date.

You're right, that said I looked and Fairphone has first-party support with e/OS which is also a privacy focussed de-googled Android, and in fact you can even buy the phone from Fairphone with e/OS already installed.
I haven't checked self-installing yet though.

And with great timing: Kagi just announced a change to their billing structure: any moth you don't actually do a search you. will get a full refund for. So you only pay if you use it.

Corporations are psychopaths, you cannot appeal to a psychopath's better nature. Only to their self interest.
We don't have the benefit of a government in the largest economy that will hold them to account, the only thing we have left is to cost them every penny we can in retribution.
comment in response to

Not letting Google see your e-mail costs them money. Not letting them see what you search for costs them money.
Every bit of money we can deprive them is a consumer backlash. Every penny we cost them makes supporting this fascist government less profitable. Less appealing.

That said, moving my fairphone4 to GrapheneOS is on my todo list.
And that DOES make it possible to go completely google free.
Having said that, do not let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Every step in the right direction MATTERS.
