I have nothing but admiration for Ukraine and its people and am deeply ashamed of my country for willingly throwing away its democracy while Ukrainians put their lives on the line to defend theirs - and that of other Europeans willing to commit the same error as Americans.

They don’t keep voting for fascists because of Democratic messaging or issues. It’s because they’re terrified of a world where simply being white, Christian and cis/straight ceases to be a golden ticket, and they’d rather burn the country down than share it with anyone who isn’t.

It’s because they think Russia’s non-alignment with the West makes it an ally, so they fail to understand that it’s actually just a European colonial empire. Their blinkered worldview also prevents them from understanding that non-Western countries can practice imperialism.
