This is the second day in a row that federal agents shot us both

These govt employees are not in an undercover operation, not in a covert operation. Their role is clear. But their individual identities are not. Recipe for impunity. No transparency. No accountability. www.foxla.com/news/paramou...

If only Jake Tapper could find out

For some reason, I was just thinking about how Trump’s former chief of staff tried to warn us right before the election that Trump was a fascist who wanted to rule us like a dictator … and the New York Times put that story on page A12

Note THUS FAR, LAT is covering this as a response to Trump's ICE escalation (other outlets are treating the protests as the spark).

Let’s be very clear: Los Angeles is the perfect place for this to play out for the Trumpists. The Trumpists hate California and hate Los Angeles and a vast amount of their base feels the same — even the Trumpists here, who wallow in hating the place they live. /1

President Trump's proclamation hands significant authority to someone who lacks a cool head. Here's Secretary Hegseth's first statement: False statements below and then this: "If violence continues, active duty Marines at Camp Pendleton will also be mobilized — they are on high alert."

Perhaps Newsom should have spent less time chumming around with authoritarian buffoons on his podcast and more time preparing and strategizing for the entirely predicable thing that is happening in his state right now.

they're doing this because the Insurrection Act sounds cool and edgy but they can't actually justify using the Insurrection Act. it's a silly action by an insecure administration desperately to seem manly and powerful. it should be criticized relentlessly, but it should also be laughed at.

Particularly pathetic as a fake emergency but that is on brand for this admin

You are the middle man under the invoked statute. What are you doing?

Hell of a photo

White House: "Violent mobs have attacked ICE officers and Federal Law Enforcement Officers." LAPD: "Today, demonstrations across the City of Los Angeles remained peaceful."

Someone go wake up Rip Van Jeffries @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social

The military isn’t being employed to carry out an immigration policy. The immigration policy, and especially the way the administration is choosing to carry it out, is an excuse to call out the military.

Subtle

Someone go wake up Rip Van Jeffries @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social

There are people who go into crisis when their wife leaves to work for a rival billionaire and buy a Cybertruck or something. And then there's Santa Monica Goebbels

This administration is the insurrection.

In a democracy, you don't face "consequences" for opposing an elected leader. www.npr.org/2025/04/22/n...

"Did @gavinnewsom.bsky.social first refuse the President’s request to deploy the Guard? Or did the President just skip that entirely? Newsom’s public statement, as I noted earlier, was fairly vague about what was happening...."

These are the proactive steps states need to be taking right now. Another thing: every Democratic governor needs to have a sit-down now with the state adjutant general to carefully review that person's understanding of their responsibilities to their state, its citizens and the federal constitution.

Today: Tanks are being moved en masse into DC. Trump is deploying a state national guard over a governor’s objection to police protests. Trump threatened a major donor with “severe consequences” if they support his political opponents. If you’re still wondering what time it is, read this again

the white house thinks brute force is, no pun intended, a trump card. they don’t anticipate pushback and they don’t know how to handle it with anything other than escalation. the issue is that each escalation is itself a gamble. if protesters refuse to back down, you’ve lost face. (1/?)

Subtle

POTUS has *not* invoked the Insurrection Act in CA 1. Uses 10 USC 12406 - "to temporarily protect ICE and other United States Government personnel" to enforce federal law and protect federal property. 2. 2,000 National Guardsmen for up to 60 days. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

Guys the authority invoked is not the Insurrection Act don’t let ppl tell you it’s the Insurrection Act ok

Katie Miller apparently has a tattoo on the inside of her lip that says “YOLO”

We don't have secret police in America. At least we're not supposed to.

I don't care if these monstrous ICE raids are a "federal operation". This is authoritarian violence, plain and simple. Just because Stephen Miller has kidnapping quotas for brown people he doesn't want to see on the street doesn't mean we have to think it's okay.

Hell of a sentence from the guy who valorized & pardoned violent criminality against Capitol Police on the job: "The Trump Administration has a zero tolerance policy for criminal behavior and violence, especially when that violence is aimed at law enforcement officers trying to do their jobs."

RODRIGO DUTERTE: i am innocent of these so-called crimes against humanity. i did what i had to do to defend the filipino people from drug addiction GAVIN NEWSOM: thanks for coming on the pod, president duterte — and you don’t have to tell me that drugs are a social menace, friend

Literally two weeks ago Stephen Miller screamed at ICE leadership for not raiding Home Depots.

“The Trump Administration has a zero tolerance policy for criminal behavior and violence, especially when that violence is aimed at law enforcement officers trying to do their jobs.” Hence the January 6th pardons.

Words matter. Truth matters. A few hundred protestors exercising their constitutional right to assemble, speak and dissent is not a “violent mob” and it is not an “insurrection.” See this for what it is: a pretext to invoke the Insurrection Act and declare martial law in Los Angeles.

The Insurrection Act is sweeping. It’s a huge grant of power to the President. It is also very expressly for conditions that do not exist in California. And if you’re hypothetically the governor, you should be saying so.

I feel like @gregdoucette.bsky.social is one of the only ppl doing actual person-count analysis #onhere, and that analysis REALLY matters. I think the use of armored vehicles, combat cops, etc, is a show of force to mask the Feds’ underlying WEAKNESS. Without local help, they don’t have enough.

The fact they chose California as the flash point is also an indicator that they don't think these things through LA has like 4M+ people. Sending every single ICE officer is ~20K, LAPD is 9K, LASD is 10K. Going in at 100:1 manpower – leaving zero bodies for literally anything else – is foolish 1/

"We’re very clearly entering a moment of grave danger. My main thought about this is to remember – as we’ve said in other contexts – that the fight to preserve the American republic remains fundamentally one over public opinion."
