Alen was just a wannabe gangster kid, who eventually got in jail. He was in the right place at the right time to meet RDA agents. He volunteered without a second thought. Bro wanted to start fresh and maybe do something in his life.

Alen is based on a theory about Spider mutating over the years to better adapt to life on Pandora. RDA probably figured out something like this on their own. Then they needed a volunteer. Someone, who's desperate and got nothing to lose. Alen was perfect for that.
