Me: Working night shift is fine! I had a great shift and enjoyed hanging out with my night colleagues. Being 21 weeks pregnant hasn’t changed anything. Also me: worked one night shift and now I am physically incapable of doing anything for my entire post-night day.

The social expectation that the ER will solve every problem is unrealistic & sets ER providers up for failure, resulting in significant moral injury & burn out. People need to understand it's not that we don't want to solve the problem, it's that we can't.

I know it’s hard to get/see a primary care doc. I know many don’t listen, or don’t keep chasing symptoms if initial tests are unrevealing. I know that it sucks to feel bad and have it shrugged off because tests are normal. But the ER is not the place to get a diagnosis for chronic vague symptoms.

Okay now that y’all know I’m pregnant: I’m no longer immune to measles by my titers, and I am NOT happy about this. Still immune to mumps and rubella. But I can’t get an MMR booster until after the baby is born, so it’s not a great time to be a pregnant ER doctor in a measles outbreak!
