Yes, excellent presentation and I’ve bought the book even though in my opinion the only thing the Romans did for us Scots is start to unite us to get rid of them! 😂

Mine sounds cool - David Bowie 🤩 …but then I have to admit it was The Laughing Gnome 🤪

Looks good David. Interesting approach doing it diagonally. Is that easier? Is it a personal preference? A factor of the specific design? Do you reckon the Pictish carvers would have worked this way?

No idea how you’re gonna do that but if anyone can you will 😁

As an Early Medievalist and a cat servant, have to love this. Never seen it before

Hmm, interesting. Never occurred to me to wonder what Romans put on their coins before they had emperors

This isn’t in the Cowgate as the article says but off Tolbooth Wynd, isn’t it? But yes, agree, this should be proper housing, not more student/tourist accommodation

Strikingly similar to the Ballachuilish Lady. Ever got to scan her?

But…. It’s LocHhead not Lockhead. Your English lessons were even stronger than you realised!

Done! Least that can be done when sitting in a cosy home on Christmas Eve

Finally got an automated email telling me my reservation has been cancelled…. but no word of refund. Their parent restaurant, Gardener’s Cottage, has also closed so I guess they’ve gone bust

I’m more than sad, I’m angry. Booked and prepaid for Hogmanay dinner there and this is the first I’ve heard about it 😡 I’ll be chapping the door at Gardener’s Cottage tomorrow demanding my money back What makes it worse is that Hogmanay is also my wife’s birthday so I try to make it special

Well we had to get our pandrops from somewhere I suppose! 😀

Saw one in our garden in Edinburgh today. Not seen one there before

Size isn’t everything! I would contend that the very size of the biggest suggests they weren’t “forts”

Also the axes and hammers. So similar to ones carried by other enigmatic figures on other stones e.g. Rhynie and his cousins

Good thread Andy. Intrigued by “Batchelor’s Peppermint Distillery” which must be around where the Holyrood Distillery is now. Quick Google comes up with nothing. Maybe another rabbit hole for you?

What? You bought the Museum Cat? 🤪

Move to Scotland. Not a problem here. Or, even better, get your government to follow Scottish policies. At least stop them from trying to wreck them by deliberate and wilfully destructive underfunding
