I keep seeing this meme that says, "Make Orwell Fiction Again." Kinda funny, but it risks decontextualizng what's happening now. Orwell wasn't, like, just making shit up. 1984 is a pretty clear allegory of the way authoritarians have always used surveillance and doublespeak. It was never fiction.
