I guess I'm just your typical Quiet American...an idealist living in a corrupted world and not always making the best choices.

You could also add 1 or 2 zeroes, or peel 1 or 2 off, and the cheerleaders would never notice. It's just a big number to cheer.

When I was in high school there was this kid who had this shirt that said CANAL+ (the movie studio). But the C was over in his armpit, and so it always looked like "ANAL+". For some reason I thought of this just now...

So you're saying the Rockies don't think it's funny?
comment in response to post
They've always liked monopoly and crony capitalism more than anything.

Trump turns on all of the lickspittles who degrade themselves to serve him. It just took almost 9 years for him to do it to Comey after the 2016 election assist.

Meanwhile the Rockies, my team, would have somehow found a way to give up 2 homeruns on one pitch.

Don't forget special teams!

"So long, and thanks for all the fighters."

They've got two democrats as US senators right now! Tell me what other purple leaning red state we're doing that well in.

I steered well clear when I heard they recommend a chainmail glove. I'm making cheeseburgers, not playing Dungeons and Dragons.

But I should admit I'm from Nebraska too.

I mean...I'll bet it would taste kind of good. Kind of like that old "salad" that was strawberry jello and cream cheese and pretzels.

Until the residents of a densely packed city with narrow streets and limited parking start buying jacked up F-350 pickups, there is no justice anywhere.

100 days of very strong letters from Chuck Schumer!

Sorry, "ELECTION FRAUD"

How are they committing "election fraud" unless he plans on running again?

Embarrassed to be a Gen X man right now...

Ahh, what is it about pasta in the springtime? Why does it taste so different in April? Oh wait....there's nothing connecting pasta and spring. It's a year round food.

He's not "getting fired." He's leaving Washington so he can spend more time drinking with his family.

Then on the bus suddenly it smells like someone just shat an entire pack of Juicy Fruit. The stuff is so addictive they can't last 45 waking minutes without a hit.

I would walk 500 miles...for propane and propane accessories.

Yes. But the goalposts always wind up moving for these guys.

I'm not surprised at all at the person doing it. She is often wrong but seldom in doubt, as the saying goes...

I am very much not traveling abroad in part out of fear that some apparatchik at border control would decide I was disloyal and deport me when I returned home.

The answer is very obviously yes.

Time to read pretty much everything by Orwell.

If we are talking about the same post, it was totally unrelated to what Yglesias was posting about. And I gave him sincere advice, which I stand by, that he ought to block people who want to behave like that.
comment in response to post
What I don't like is this spirit of thinking you're some kind of social media cop; that when Yglesias posts something, you dig up your screenshot of something unrelated and be like "REMEMBER THIS? YOU'RE GOING TO ANSWER FOR IT, SHITHEAD." Who does that?
comment in response to post
Uhh, one? I replied once telling him to block people who post unrelated stuff and demand explanations. Is one that hard to count to?
comment in response to post
You should definitely block people who are bringing up unrelated stuff to your post and demanding explanations. That kind of behavior is contrary to the spirit of this place.

And the faculty and the staff. Why does that matter any less?

To be tested out first with some people that no one wants to defend...a child molester or two, someone who murdered an elderly woman. Then, it slides to opponents of the regime. El Salvador is the new Dachau before you know it.

It's obvious that for years Maher has been way angrier about a college sophomore somewhere saying something a little whacky than he has been about people with real power destroying our democracy.
comment in response to post
Maher's heel turn to fascism will be the least surprising celebrity move ever.

The trouble is that this belief is pretty widespread. I remember watching people insisting (and they still do!) that Joe Biden "mishandled" Afghanistan. They are painfully naïve; they think Biden could have snapped his fingers, dictated terms, and won the war on the way out the door.

A guy came up to me, a big guy, tough guy, tears streaming down his face, and said "Sir, the bond yields are almost too high. I'm getting too rich."

One man, and his hundred million supporters who want to believe in magical solutions.

But NYC just wouldn't have the same charm without all the urine.

They have so idealized some prototypical Midwestern blue collar worker as the only voter who matters that they don't even know what to do about actual politics any longer.

Well I was glancing up at FOX News last night at the gym and it was non stop "Trump strong Trump man Smart. World weak, world dumb, Democrats dumb."

Just for the record, if the shoe were on the other foot, the GOP would be doing everything in its power to blow up the economy.

Historians are famously not particularly theoretical, or at least not married to single theories. Even Marxist history (those written in non communist countries anyway) tend to be nuanced.
