This quote was telling:
“‘A five-day lag is unheard of, as it prevents FEMA from fulfilling its statutory roles,’ another longtime FEMA official told CNN. ‘It feels like a way to make it look like FEMA is being slow when we’re not yet authorized to act.’”

Big picture: I think the widespread adoption of LLMs and other "AI" is going to further divisions and I worry about some groups falling further behind. I'm at a minority serving institution with a large number of students who are first gen and/or low income...

@awalkerinla.bsky.social Unionization might’ve been a good topic, too, since the actors and crew are surely all union, transit is largely union, but Uber isn’t (yet?)

They’re definitely imitating TikTok because they see popular videos doing it, not cutting because they need to. Might even be some kind of automated edit that supposedly makes it more engaging? Betrays a superficial understanding of the medium, surprising nobody.

Because it’s harder to catch defects in code you didn’t write, the only realistic way of ensuring that you really do “go faster” is to let more defects through, unintentionally or no.
So, effectively “LLMs for coding” are largely a cover story for improving throughput by relaxing quality standards

A friend of mine just said to me, "Trash containerization in NYC is like the Apollo program in that it also should have been done in the 1960s" and I'm really sad I didn't think of that myself.

In New Jersey we’re about to see a big jump in electricity prices in a few days, AI being cited as a reason: www.njpp.org/publications...

According to the provider, the demand created by new “AI data centers” is a big factor in why my electricity bill is going to significantly increase next month.

It’s even worse when they fumble the script. I heard one this morning that was just painful. Awkward pause and the reporter tried to improvise slightly before they recovered.

It’s a caste thing: they think cities and transit are for the poors and browns, so anything that benefits cities and transit is no good.
