The most amazing podcast I have heard recently was an interview with Paul Mason, who is fairly left week, suggesting we geo the economy by rearming ( presumably from UK suppliers). When you hear someone from the left saying that, you know we are in trouble. It's a great idea though

Labour couldn't raise income tax because the tabloids would have slaughtered them if this were policy during the GE. Asking businesses to pay more NI will slow growth and we will have to pay more anyway. It's a sad state of affairs that tabloid newspapers can do such damage to our country.

Universities in financial difficulty because the student fees haven't kept pace with inflation are starting to reduce their commitment to research. Research helps drive the economy by enabling new startups and provides a well trained workforce. The UK's competitive advantage is being reduced.

UK Universities are in real financial difficulties, already some redundancies were announced. The cause is that student fees have not increased with inflation and our immigration policy has reduced the number of foreign students. A perfect storm. We need to rethink University funding urgently.

I feel sorry for everyone caught up in the conflict in the middle east. But both sides are at fault. And until both sides can accept that, the madness will continue. And we certainly shouldn't be supplying arms to perpetuate the conflict.

A few Universities in the UK are likely to go bust soon. But I wonder if the public will care (apart from those with family a the University). If KFC went bust there would be public outcry. But if University of XXXXXX goes bust - I expect intense apathy.
