Musk states "the fundamental weakness of Western civilization is empathy". Charles Darwin, who actually researched this stuff, showed it was empathy, specifically, that enabled humanity to flourish.

when Elon Musk started recruiting for DOGE last November, he said the work would be “tedious” and “compensation is zero" now it turns out some DOGE operatives are earning six-figure salaries, one as high as $195,200, as much as a civil servant can legally make www.wired.com/story/doge-g...

A daily reminder that Andrew Cuomo spent $28 million of New Yorker's tax dollars defending his sexual harassment accusations.

If your “natural immunity” is so great that you “don’t need vaccines” then why do you need to buy so many supplements and potions and veterinary pharmaceuticals? If infections aren’t actually a problem at all then why are you using horse dewormer on them?

can't believe it's 2025 and i'm stressed about tariffs and measles, like am i a character in an american girl book

If you're an REI member, you can vote to toss out the board that's endorsed Trump's candidate for Dept. of Interior and has worked to stop REI unions. Vote runs until May 2nd. Spread the word. vote.escvote.com/REI/

I've said it before but there should be a law that if in your Oscar speech you thank your parents "up there" you have to clarify if they are dead or in the balcony

Good statement

Another $40 spent at not-Whole Foods. #boycott @wholefoods365.bsky.social

Heard Don Lemon ask a New Yorker about Cuomo running considering his sexual assault allegations. The person on the street said, me too is canceled, it's over. There are more important things... Can't stop thinking about that. Like men having consequences is..a fad.

"Public investment" vs "Wasteful Subsidy." The only problem with this clever Singer cartoon is that some people might actually not get that it’s sarcastically illustrating the incorrect perception problem, NOT telling the truth. Just in case it actually needs to be said, the truth is the opposite.

In honor of Jeff Bezos “free market” statements, we just did our weekly shop at Trader Joe’s = $140 total instead of Whole Foods #boycott @wholefoods365.bsky.social

NOTE: The opponents of DEI are purging anyone who is not a white man from military leadership This is not about merit; it’s about normalizing racism and misogyny

America's workers are not "falling" into homelessness. They're being pushed. My essay for @nytopinion.nytimes.com:

100% this.

Every mainstream attempt to grapple with the rise of Tate and other misogynist ideologues have posed them as a product of men’s despair. Few have posited them as an assault on women’s safety and dignity.

The information environment in this country is a f'ing Superfund site, and the people who steer political coverage at some of the nation's most storied newsrooms are among the heaviest pourers of sludge.

Just read this graf. Share it with people you know who don’t pay attention to politics or news.

This whole country wants bad things for others more than they want good things for themselves.

Many people seem to think that certain things 'aren't enough' and so either don't do anything or are discouraged. To me, this is part of a learned helplessness AND also part of all or nothing thinking [very USian]. Doing small things ALL OF THE TIME is better than one big thing one time [maybe].+

He said he was “deporting criminals” but he’s actually importing them…

I agree with this take. The correct thing to do if you are mad at Target is to figure out what you buy at Target and how to get it from somewhere else, and then do so. For as long as you need to.

@wholefoods365.bsky.social Consistent WF shopper for 5 years and was planning to support the 1 day/1 week boycott of WF and Amazon but after a discussion with the ptr, and the Bezos WaPo "supporting the free market" statement yesterday, we're boycotting both indefinitely starting yesterday.

Excellent thread and food for thought

The Montgomery Bus Boycott was a historical year-long event that led to the desegregation of public buses & helped launch the modern #CivilRights Movement. It took (over a span of) several years to organize. Tackling issues this wrong + deep-rooted takes bravery, community and time.
