went skiing and spent some time in the mountains this weekend. The mountains are Good. now time for Thai food and civil conflict readings

@alexbnewhouse.bsky.social making some keen insights in the GC. The fact so much of our current woes can be traced back to the Protocols and 4-chan is insane.

having just turned 30 and hoping to own a house at some point is like being repeatedly punched in the face while politically powerful homeowners yell about how I should be thankful i'm getting punched in the face

look, as a comparative political scientist, i'd assess what's happening as: 1. clearly a coup 2. clearly an extremely *dumb* coup

I think it’s about time that we start actually saying out loud that the Musk-GOP explicitly supports violent child exploitation of the most despicable variety

Ulysses rolled artillery into southern capitals. We can do this again.

saw this and immediately subscribed to the print edition

one of our best friends is a phd student in the netherlands and every day I get closer and closer to calling them up and seeing if we can crash with them for *waves hands erratically* a while

i'm ready for when it'll be cheaper to burn cash than spend it on firewood

I think we should make bluesky more like myspace to increase good vibes. in that interest: my gf and I had a wonderful lunch date today at a bangin' dim sum place we randomly stopped at while in broomfield. dim sum rocks. diversity rocks.

call me old fashioned but I don't think government should be in the business of prioritizing transit funding based on birth rates

what's funny about being in academia is that you're constantly inundated with media and rhetoric that insists that academics are The Elites and super out-of-touch, when in reality we're mostly just bookworms who get paid WAY below market rate and put in dozens of hours per week to help students

these guys all got *way* too high on golden age utopianism/resurrection stuff and think that ~metaphysics~ will take over once they destroy the government.

it really seems like they turned off medicaid by accident because they worked themselves into a moral panic over dei

not sure that stopping ALL food stamps, meals on wheels, and WIC is going to help republicans

these are not smart people! They are evil but smart&evil would not look like this! They have no idea what they’re doing!

*starts building list of faculty jobs overseas while laughing increasingly hysterically*

they’ve been conspiracism-addled for so many years that they’ve turned into full blown collapsists because they believe that they can convince people to come to their side via the destruction of, well, everything

two weeks into my job at playstation--a company known for generally being competent and efficient--back in 2018, my corporate account got deleted and IT couldn't figure out how to re-provision it for a week. and the groypers are supposed to run provisions for a nationwide deportation program?

if you believe that randos are going to be handed a gun and a badge, who then is running the gun-and-badge distribution system? who is the chief quartermaster and provisioner of the stormtrooper deployment program?

denver-boulder area has its issues, but westminster/arvada/broomfield/thornton are building huge new apartment complexes and it's been amazing to see many of them are along light rail lines too!

one of the ways that radically decentralized networks of loosely affiliated actors produce violence is by the cultivation of stochastic-like collective dynamics. these types of networks build "traditions" of attackers through the production of memory artifacts like leaderboards, memes, etc.

really wish we had a contemporary Grant. military occupation to enforce de-segregation and the 14th amendment feels like it's coming back into fashion.

Great article here on @propublica.org by @phoebepetrovic.bsky.social on how two mass shooters were apart of the same online communities that worship mass shooters. A fandom for mass shooter fans one could say. Give it a read! @maargentino.com and @alexbnewhouse.bsky.social contributed!

@propublica.org article referencing my work alongside @bluebilliejeans.bsky.social, with insight from @alexbnewhouse.bsky.social. The details of these stories are difficult to read, but we hope understanding will help prevent future violence. www.propublica.org/article/madi...

quite literally the entire Enlightenment-infused academic apparatus is built on picking and choosing which types of academics and which types of ideas can and should be explored

I love that many Dems appear to want to play to the Anthony Downsian "politicians are exclusively interested in winning and retaining power" caricature thank god for @aoc.bsky.social

shoutout to @thewaroncars.bsky.social's series on Forrester for educating me on just how deranged and influential the vehicular cycling movement is

I still maintain that a "Turn the IRS against the assholes making you poor" coalition would win 400 electoral votes
