Happy #InternationalWomensDay ! Today, we celebrate women's achievements, including all the amazing progress we have made in the 114 years since International Women's Day was first observed.

I'm proud to celebrate #WorldBookDay today! Reading for fun is a key indicator that children will grow up to enjoy happy and successful lives. With the UK's child literacy rates alarmingly in decline, it's vital we continue to provide opportunities for children to develop a passion for reading.

Taking away the support that people rely on does nothing to address the issues that make this support necessary in the first place. These cuts are yet another example of the Government's misguided focus on symptoms, rather than causes, as well as the urgent need to rebuild our NHS. #nhs #welfare

(1/3) Today, the Women and Equalities Committee published its report on non-consensual intimate image abuse (NCII). NCII can take many forms, ranging from sharing a former partner's intimate images (revenge porn) to using AI to non-consensually create sexually explicit images of people (deepfakes).

(1/2): Many people have written to me about the pressures that Church Crookham Pharmacy is facing. Community pharmacies provide vital services to local people, especially our most vulnerable, and play a key role in our area's health and wellbeing - it's vital they aren’t at risk of closure. #nhs

The UK should insist that the Israeli Govt reopens routes for humanitarian aid to reach the population in Gaza who are trying to live amid the destruction. Withholding essential food, shelter and medicine contravenes international humanitarian law. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Reporting on the work I've been doing for #NorthEastHampshire:

(1/2): The independent Water Commission want to hear from you, as they explore the issue of water sector reform. I know many of you have been greatly affected by problems with the water sector, and so I encourage you to take advantage of this chance to have your voices heard on this issue. #water

Ramadan Mubarak to all those celebrating in North East Hampshire and beyond!

(1/2): Today is UK Youth Parliament Day! I recently met North East Hampshire's Youth Parliament representative, who spoke eloquently about how she is relishing this opportunity. I appreciated hearing from her about the issues important to young people, and she represented her constituents well.

International Development minister Anneliese Dodds quits over aid cuts

(1/2) Rural crime is often accompanied by violence, threats and intimidation, and has heavy links to organised criminal gangs, as well as county lines drug dealing. Today, I urged the Government to step up and put an end to the torment facing our farmers and rural communities. #ruralcrime #farming

Yesterday, I marched with care workers to demand fair pay and sustainable funding for social care. This is the first time carers have felt the need to protest in this way. If that's not enough of a wakeup call for the Government, then I don't know what is. This situation is simply unsustainable.

If the Prime Minister is serious about the UK taking a leading role in European security, then he cannot cut aid, which is vital to our relationships with our allies. Our security relies on strong defence, but also on strong relationships. This decision gives with one hand and takes with the other.

The War in Ukraine is an important reminder that the values of freedom and democracy, that we often take for granted, are far from guaranteed. On the third anniversary of Putin's illegal invasion, my thoughts go out to all those fighting to protect these values in the face of aggression. #ukraine

It's always encouraging to see how much local people care about the environment. When I visited St John's in Hartley Wintney, the Church's vicar and environmental champions spoke with me about how the Church is taking steps to reduce its carbon footprint. #climatecrisis #nature #environment

I recently had the chance to meet Lydia and Amelia Miller, the founders of @iveejobs.bsky.social This innovative organisation seeks to eliminate the motherhood penalty by partnering with companies providing genuine return-to-work opportunities for mums. #paygap #returntowork #womenintheworkplace

The Government must now go further and faster on defence spending so we can stand up for #Ukraine and ensure our security against an emboldened Vladimir Putin. 🇬🇧🇺🇦 The @libdems.org.uk have a clear plan. 🔶👇

The rain didn’t stop us in #Fleet this morning. Lovely to speak to people on the doorsteps about VAT on private schools, local area maintenance, Thames Water and the state of the roads. #WorkingInAllWeathers #NorthEastHampshire

(1/4) Our local hospitals are one of my key areas of focus. I've been in contact recently with the CEOs of both Frimley ICB and Hampshire Hospitals, and I recently visited Basingstoke Hospital in person for a tour of the site.

(1/3) I've been following the news about Thames Water today, and I'm very disappointed with the High Court's decision to issue another bailout. I'm wholly supportive of my colleague Charlie Maynard MP on this issue, who's been working incredibly hard for all those affected by Thames' failures.

Yateley School's new Hudson Centre is designed to help children who have fallen out of the school system, supporting them in their return to formal education. I was glad to attend the Centre's opening, and enjoyed the chance to talk to students and staff about the important service it will provide.

Here's what I've been working on over the past few weeks as your MP for North East Hampshire:

Lovely to be out knocking on doors this week in #Hook Thanks to those who spared a few moments to tell me about: 👩‍🏫 Special Educational Needs 🍃 The #environment 🚌 Lack of rural #bus services 🫣 #potholes and the dreadful state of our roads. Plus - anger at the cancellation of local elections.

Hampshire Conservatives are running scared of elections. Those Councillors elected in 2021 no longer have a mandate to make major decisions for our County's future. My view on last night's The Last Word on ITV Meridian with Kit Bradshaw (1/2).

The delay to Basingstoke Hospital's rebuild is unacceptable, and will see taxpayers pay almost as much on maintenance for the current hospital as they will on building the new hospital. I asked the Prime Minister to explain the logic in making taxpayers pay twice for this delay:

I'm outraged the Government has accepted Hampshire County Council's request to suspend local elections. Democracy delayed is democracy denied. Councillors elected in 2021 lack a mandate to make decisions in 2026 and beyond, especially decisions of such significance to the future of our county.

I was delighted to co-sponsor Harry's Hat's Speaker's House Event earlier today, hosted by @commonsspeaker.parliament.uk. It's encouraging to see so many taking hydrocephalus seriously. If we give this condition the attention it deserves, small changes could go a long way for those affected.

My statement following today's announcement of the cancellation of Hampshire County Council's elections.

This week I met with the Minister for Science, Innovation and Technology. It was useful to receive a briefing on the progress of 5G broadband roll-out in #NorthEastHampshire. Our area is below both the UK and South East averages on all criteria, despite a high percentage of people working in tech.
