"Frogging" is the term we use for that, yes (because you rip it, rip it). I've never heard a knitter use the term "give it a frog" specifically, but I guess some might.

High voter turnout tends to benefit progressives, which is why voter suppression is such a popular tactic on the right. Can't make any assumptions, though. Everybody needs to get out and vote like their lives depend on it!

This election has been exhausting.
I grew up in a family full of conservatives so I know the taking points, and practicing law (+ dating lawyers) taught me to stay in control of a discussion without getting dragged into someone else's narrative. But man, I feel at a loss so often lately.

Reminds me of this video from @garyseconomics.bsky.social about how the wealthy have ways to make their own lines go up even when the global ones falter: by taking from the rest of us.

@rachelgilmore.bsky.social has done some good reporting on his ties with Poilievre.

I don't know. I agree that there are issues that aren't getting nearly enough coverage - but it is worth paying attention to the use of the maga playbook in Canada. American norms were as vulnerable as they were because people handwaved the warning signs saying "that would never happen here."

I'm glad you let it be. A friend of mine who's on disability benefits and had $7 in their bank account was harassed at the grocery store for buying the marked-down $2 American strawberries because it was the only way they could afford fresh fruit that week. Consumer choice is a luxury.

The timing of the election, the fact that many people's voter cards or mail-in ballots didn't even arrive until election day, and now this...the fact that voter turnout was higher than in 2022, despite all the barriers, suggests that Ontarians were actually more motivated than it would appear.

It's irresponsible of these news outlets to keep reporting it as something that happened, when the only evidence is that he *said he's doing it*

Don't you know that some of us live in frozen hellscapes where our gardens are still covered in snow? You need to check your privilege.

Also much more fun to post on the internet about what you *would* do in a hypothetical scenario than to actually grapple with the inconvenient and nuanced realities of people's lives.

Yep, I'll believe it when I see it happen. Which it should, regardless of what happens with the tariffs; the "First Buddy" of a President who's threatening our sovereignty should under no circumstances be handed control over any part of our communications infrastructure.

The downside to our brilliantly creative, adaptable human brains is that we're highly susceptible to beliefs that are completely divorced from reality.

Learning about the Q movement in the early days sent me down a tragicomic rabbithole of "What the fuck" and "oh nooo" that helped me make sense of (and set boundaries with) my MAGA family members.
It explains...a lot.

It's pretty grim. There are some riding-level developments here in Ottawa that make me pretty happy - we're sending some solid progressive voices to Queen's Park & the Liberals flipped a seat that used to be held by one of Ford's biggest bulldogs. SO disappointed in the rest of the province, though.
