My book is pretty expensive. BUT you can read a free sample on Kindle(www.amazon.com/Crafty-Game-...). AND you can get a discount at the publisher's site if you want the paperback!

Magnifico at Escaparium is crazy good. It is to escape rooms as Punchdrunk is to immersive theater.

Turns out escape rooms are almost never about escaping! complicationsensue.blogspot.com/2025/06/a-mi...

To make a great indie game, pick one thing to do incredibly well, and do everything else well enough.

Necessity is a mother

Mycelium is better than yours.

It has gotten hard to keep straight in which apps the Enter key will behave friendly-like, and in which it will immediately fire off my half-baked paragraph to all and sundry.

Roger and James wish you a very happy Pride. James may be a bit surly about it, but he's that way with everybody.

We saw the Berthe Weill exhibit at the Beaux-Arts. I was struck by Toulouse-Lautrec's poster for Divan Japonais. You know the one. But isn't it odd? It's selling the audience, not the show. It's saying, "Come be stylish like this lady."

The advice I & everyone else gives for breaking in is, "make something." Bc there are no more entry-level jobs where you can prove yourself. But that's a lot easier for middle-class+ kids who don't need to work to eat. We need paying junior jobs or we're going to lose diversity of experience.

Someone asked on reddit what "small details" about Fragpunk were that folks absolutely love, and I'm digging how many of them are dialogue lines we wrote! www.reddit.com/r/PlayFragPu...

We watched Andor, then Rogue One, then A New Hope. These days ANH looks like a sly B-movie homage elevated by a handful of amazing actors and a legendary score. It's the music, really. Without John Williams's music, none of this would have happened.

There used to be an island just North of the Ile St. Louis in Paris, but they filled in the stream that separated it from the mainland, in order to get more land, and where that stream was is now called Blvd. Morland. This kind of thing amuses me no end.

I enjoyed Andor, but the moral seems to be that if you fight the power, you'll get everyone you know killed. Not sure that's the best moral for these days, though it may be accurate for certain times and places.

I've noticed that italics, ellipses, dashes and other punctuation can improve the way a script *reads*, but they often get in the way in a recording session. Actors overdo'em. I have to remember to take'em out.

Author copies arrived! It's like a new member of the family!

That's the third series in a month where the 30something male lead is the least interesting, least plausible character in the show.

Both the right wing and the left wing have adopted Star Wars as a mythos, and each side thinks that they're the Rebellion and the other side is the Empire.

@fionacreates.bsky.social We're looking for someone to make a cover for us. Could you dm me?

Stability: the degree to which things remain the same when someone gets stabbed.

Strange Days is not available on any streaming service, and the disks are $30. If only there was somewhere I could, like, rent the disk for a couple of days.

In other news, the Greeks have offered Donald Trump a giant wooden horse covered in gold leaf. They're calling it a "rolling palace."

Instead of the bland, "have a nice day," add some suspense by saying, "I hope you enjoy the next 24 hours."

Okay, SNL, Trump is sorta like that. Now can we please have a cold open about literally anything else?

In 1985, the US discovered that its new embassy in Moscow, constructed by Soviet workers, was so riddled with listening devices it was unusable. www.airandspaceforces.com/PDF/Magazine... Now, class: why would we not want the President to fly around in an airplane provided by another country?

People like to wear masks at costume parties so they can behave ways they wouldn't if you could see their face. Which is why it's not great that law enforcement has developed the habit of covering their faces when dealing with the public, who they theoretically work for.

Lore should tell us who wrote it. complicationsensue.blogspot.com/2025/05/lore...

Science fiction = the world changes + people don't.

Lovely "Art Blast" from the artists who made South of Midnight so ravishingly beautiful and strange. magazine.artstation.com/2025/04/comp...

I finished Clair Obscur last night, and yes, the studio is under thirty people, but also, there are several screenfuls of Korean animators in the credits. So not so much a triumph of a small studio as a triumph of a small studio + a lot of outsourcing. (Still a triumph, just not an actual miracle.)
