In 2025, we continue to advocate for policy based on scientific evidence. This 2020 Editorial, “We need leaders that believe in scientific evidence”, resonates today as loudly as ever: plos.io/34lyl59. PLOS Biology also continues to push for DEI and a diverse scientific community: plos.io/3rzxczU 🧪

HOT OFF THE PRESS - Back in 2019 we started asking ourselves what could you to demonstrate where werable, OPM-MEG technology could fit into naturalistic #neuroskyence. One snag, we'd have to build the system from scratch first... Anyway its 2025, read the paper here -> doi.org/10.1162/imag...

delighted to share our work revealing a new type of excitatory hippocampal neuron we call the "ovoid cell", which has really exquisite properties relative to adjacent pyramidal cells! superb work of first-author @adriennekinman.bsky.social and many others in the lab www.nature.com/articles/s41...

We have a new lab blog answering the question, "So what's new?" It highlights recent work with @laurennross.bsky.social, the construction of a lifespan brain model, and the first efforts in sociocultural neuroscience. It's been a busy couple of years! www.armcintosh.com/blog/2025/2/...

Recent executive orders targeting marginalized communities underscore the urgent need for inclusive biomedical research. Our latest work, now out in print, explores how interconnected social identities impact brain biology and mental health, providing a roadmap for more equitable research.

We are very excited to announce the open release of a new 170 participant dataset: Linked MEG, TMS, multimodal 3T MRI, 7T MRI, Connectom MRI, cognitive /questionnaire data. Immense effort from a fabulous CUBRIC team. Paper by Carolyn McNabb et al: doi.org/10.1038/s415...

In a new preprint with @kleind.bsky.social, we ask two questions: (Q1) People differ in how they perceive the similarity of stimuli in their environment. How can we model the features underlying similarity judgments in arbitrary domains, while accounting for individual differences? osf.io/agpb5_v1 🧵

A special Bluetorial about one of my mentors Ruth Kirschstein Among Ruth Kirschstein’s many contributions to American science was the development and expansion of programs intended to increase participation of people from groups underrepresented in biomedical research.

Hey if anyone is considering backing up any datasets for some reason today, the Open Science Framework has free storage up to 5G/private repository, and up to 50G/public repository. (The OSF is run by a 501c3 (Center for Open Science), so if you do this you might also consider making a donation.)

I've been working with the Wilson-Cowan neural mass model for a while now and, over time, I've accumulated a bunch of tools to explore/visualize it. I recently decided to collect it all into a github repository available here if anyone is interested: github.com/NeuroLife77/...

This is just a short love letter to PubMed: absolutely one of the best things US agencies have ever done for science. 'When I were a lad': we had databases of articles (Science Citation Index Expanded or Medline) but the only way to access text was to find the physical journal then photocopy it.
