All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

The that’s not your headline you’ve failed as a journalist and failed even worse as a human being.
He’s #5 in the world in aging research & expertise & on multiple review boards ensuring funds go to crucial research. #NIH #NCI
We are both in tears
@mayocliniccancer.bsky.social
It’s a grant geared towards supporting the early careers of underrepresented PhD trainees in neuroscience
B/c it’s a diversity-focused research grant, this likely means it will be killed before it even gets reviewed
"At the present time, all Federal Advisory Committee Meetings and related reviewer orientation webinars are cancelled. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding. Unfortunately, we have no additional information at this time."
I can handle grant rejection, but this feels like a rejection of my identity and experience
And thats proving to be a bit tougher
It could have changed everything for us
@avaskham.bsky.social another one
They hate academics, science & education in general.
What is going to happen to these grants? Reviewed next cycle? Then we have to review 18 instead of 9, impossible.
New meetings? Tried getting 3 academics to a meeting at the same time? Now try 23 or so. Unreal.
I can no longer attend Southern Regional Meeting, the Association of Clinical and Translational Scientists meeting, or the American Physician Scientists Association meeting in 2025.
I had abstracts accepted to them all.
The negotiated prices were still 2-5x more than other countries! Just not 10-20x the cost! Wtf! All 25 drug price negotiations rescinded! My sons medicine to live Stelara was reduced on medicaid and medicare to $4700 from $14k
$17k private
They tried the other 2 treatments! They almost killed him!
I do not know if they rescinded the $2000 cap on all medicine for Seniors a year?
Insulin $35 rescinded.
I’m so sorry.
Ironically, we were in the middle of a mock study section scenario to give us trainees a peek behind the curtain.
Would love to speak out.
