Three Chinese warships sailed into Sydney Harbour in June 2019 At the time reportedly unannounced The Government of the day was … umm … the LNP Government The Defence Minister was Linda Reynolds The Home Affairs Minister was - checks notes - one Peter Dutton ... #auspol

When COVID waves hit the hospital, for every 1 COVID case, we have an increase in case load of ~5 “non-COVID” patients. It seems COVID unleashes lots of other health sequelae. COVID has only just begun: we have merely replaced a crisis of ventilator shortages with one of chronic disease.

If you missed the #SundayShot this morning. I highly recommend a catch up. The panel is great and it’s hosted superbly by @instanterudite.bsky.social — There’s a funny moment when @pollyjhemming.bsky.social yells to get through some sound issues and the interview w/ @auspoldaily.bsky.social is 10/10

Hospice Ukraine has arrived on Bluesky! We are a small, UK-registered charity supporting palliative care teams across Ukraine. Founded by @doctoroxford.com, @drhenrymarsh.bsky.social, @andriimyzak.bsky.social to help provide comfort, dignity and care for patients in Ukraine at the end of life 💙💛🇺🇦

Something I've been banging on about for some time now: Peter Dutton is a multi-millionaire property developer He has been for all of his adult life. That's who he is & how he earns his wealth For a brief interlude in his 20s he was a cop, yet he and our media have defined him by that ever since

This new podcast on the 2023 referendum is excellent from two Aboriginal women on the frontline of the campaign. Better analysis than I've read in legacy media. Follow, fave ❤️ "Hi Society!" A new, youthful podcast from UNSW PVCS hosted by Allira and Bridget. open.spotify.com/episode/12l0...

My charity-Jilya which is not only addressing every priority area as determined by the latest strategic plan wasn’t event mentioned-and I mean not even a chat with me or anyone at Jilya. We are supporting & supported 64 Indigenous psychs without any fed funding. No org has achieved what we have

While Trump appoints 13 billionaires to his cabinet and Musk, Bezos and Zuckerberg see their wealth increase by $217 billion since the election, 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, 25% of seniors live on $15g or less and millions cannot afford rent. SAY NO TO OLIGARCHY.

“I said love, I said trump..pet…zzzz..” “What’s he going on about Lynne?” “No idea Carmel. At least I work three hours a day, four days a week. This bludger lobs in here once every three years, scoffs all the Iced Vo-Vos and chocolate teddy bears, rabbits on with nonsense and then disappears”

Narcilepsy The sudden overwhelming desire to fall in love with yourself for no apparent reason

So pt I’m helping applied for “assisted dying” (VAD) & had 1st assessment before seeing Palliative Care last week! Continued thru VAD process BUT now symptoms well controlled as I was asked to do. Family have come from afar. Due to die Friday…🥺 @profmarktaubert.bsky.social @doctoroxford.bsky.social

We interrupt this afternoon of doomscrolling with a focus on Cowper, the electorate on the north coast of NSW. Once 'safe' Nationals territory, it's definitely in play. BIG TIME! #Auspol Look at these primary votes from 2022:

Useful illustration for teaching students about difference between equality, equity & reality

Just caught up on the #Sundayshot More critical analysis in one show than possibly in the last 5yrs of #insiders Thankyou all, I'll be back for more 🙏

He might find that policy-by-executive order doesn’t work in Australia.

Nice piece of work Denise. I, for one, have not been persuaded that those on this do not deserve our vote.

Being extra kind in meetings- whether virtual or in person- is a superpower, especially now. No one will ever fault you for being extra patient, generous, understanding, or gentle. If they do, it's a them problem. Stay kind y'all.

Resisting oppression demands more than grand gestures. It requires daily self-examination, questioning the small actions, the silent choices, the habits we take for granted. True change begins when we confront complicity in the ordinary.

Dear Democratic Party: why are you not screaming this from every rooftop? Why are you not holding press conferences with these poor fired people - putting a face on what the richest man is destroying?

🧵"So this is how liberty dies..." Trump’s first 3 weeks have been a relentless flood of actions. It's incredibly hard to keep up. I’ve gone through 69 actions & mapped out the pattern - showing how they fall within 5 broad domains consistent with authoritarian states 1/9

A thing I wish I could teach people is that the vast majority of very rich people are deeply stupid. They did not get where they are because of ingenuity or talent. They got there because of compound interest on hereditary wealth and being tax cheats.

The Indigenous People of North America have decided to go back to calling the Gulf of Mexico, “Chalchiuhtlicueyecatl”. It is what the Nahuatl People originally called it as it is the domain of the goddess Chalchiuhtlicue, who is assoc w/water bodies, including the Gulf of Mexico.

Changing your mind doesn't always mean you've abandoned your principles. It often means you've learned something. It's better to contradict yourself and be accused of hypocrisy than to stick to your guns and sacrifice your values. The hallmark of integrity is not consistency. It's honesty.

From the Guardian below: An amendment that “ #AssistedDying would not be raised without first EXPLAINING #PalliativeCare “ Really? 🤔 Once again setting the bar particularly low I would truly hope that they would be RECEIVING palliative care before considering AD, not just mentioning it 😞

I have a confession . . . I was an “overhead cost”. I was a beaker washer, agar plate pourer, research secretary. I was paid by “overhead cost” fees. Loved it. Those “overhead cost” jobs allowed this rural kid to become a physician. Please tag how #OverheadCostJob impact u.

This is being introduced today by crossbenchers. Will be interesting to see how it goes. We at 4 Corners rely on whistleblowers from all walks of life who see poor behaviour/corruption/abuses & cannot stay silent. It leads to law reform/overhall of institutions. www.hrlc.org.au/news/landmar...

Hello #hapc25 👋 If you are new to Bluesky, I made a tip sheet to get familiar with this new platform. There is actually a growing #hospice and #PalliativeCare group of people here.

Serious study in Nature Medicine. More evidence of COVID's impact on cognition/memory/accelerated dementia, with a recurring theme - accelerated ageing of organs (kidney, heart, lungs immune system) that @zalaly.bsky.social & others have described. A good reason to reduce infection rates.

The highest compliment from someone who disagrees with you is not “You were right.” It’s “You made me think.” Good arguments help us recognize complexity where we once saw simplicity. The ultimate purpose of debate is not to produce consensus. It’s to promote critical thinking.

Politeness is not the same as kindness. Being polite is saying what makes people feel good today. Being kind is doing what helps people get better tomorrow. When the norm is politeness, people withhold disagreement and criticism. When the norm is kindness, people speak their minds respectfully.

Looking forward to #hapc25 with @aahpm.bsky.social and @hpna-info.bsky.social Hoping we can get some Bluesky traction for some live posts from the conference next week. Roll call! Who is going to Denver for #hapc25 next week? #hapc #palliative #hospice #medsky

When discussing serious health issues with patients, it’s crucial to ask permission each time a new sensitive topic is broached… people may have specific needs, timing, or preferences they’d like to voice before you “go there.”
