Trumps team passed a waiver so food was exempt from USAid cuts but food needs transport and storage which are NOT free- in effect making the food waiver null. Support for disease treatment, water pipes, disease surveillance all cut too by Trump/DOGE activity with devastating impacts

Today I met with an ex student of Paul Farmer who told me he led a course called “Who lives, who dies, who cares?”. Taken from us far too soon. Let’s keep his legacy alive.

This is insane.

New: Russia’s executions of Ukrainian prisoners point to systematic policy. Investigation with @christopherjm.ft.com @joesinft.ft.com @alisonkilling.bsky.social @digitalcampbell.ft.com @peter.andringa.me

This is not an intellectual point, bur I wanted to state that I am frightened by the situation in the US and I am becoming even more anxious by the extent to which most people I know IRL (ie: not politics addicts) are entirely unmoved

Are you dealing with “brain fog,” memory loss, or other cognitive dysfunction after a COVID-19 infection? You’re not alone! Neurological issues are common after COVID. Check out this guide for tips to help you understand the signs & manage symptoms: longcovidjustice.org/neurological

Neville Chamberlain, to do him justice, never amplified under his own byline Hitler's propaganda against the Czechs

A quarter of the personnel working in nearly five dozen U.S. laboratories trying to solve the latest avian influenza outbreak have been laid off as part of the Trump administration's plan to reduce the size of the federal workforce.

Aid officials involved in the response in Syria say people are already suffering due to Trump’s aid freeze and predict huge problems ahead as vital programmes abruptly shut services: ⬇️

Never heard of ASPR? It’s the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response. For health emergencies. Like natural disasters or infectious disease outbreaks. You may not know or think much about ASPR on the regs, but you’ll notice when it’s not there for the next health emergency.

The destruction of US science is now in full swing. Literally sickening.

Important to mention the 1st spillover was detected in March 2024 (and occurred in Nov-Dec 2023). The 2nd & 3rd were detected today and last week. Will we find another next week? More cows. More birds. More humans (H5 & lots of seasonal subtypes). Really not loving any of the current flu trends.

👋👋 Since there’s a lot of talk from Trump about how “Europe has not really carried its weight in terms of the money” for Ukraine, let’s just share some facts. Right from the beginning, *Europe has provided *more* aid to Ukraine than the United States* 1/2

Great that this surveillance has been/is being done...less great that nothing will be done with this information & we're possibly watching the next pandemic adapt to human hosts in real time

Roses are red, Violets are blue, RFK Jr was confirmed, Looks like we’ll all get bird flu.

A reminder: Vladimir Putin could end the war in Ukraine right now, just by ordering his soldiers to go home. No need for treaties or negotiations.

Tulsi Gabbard confirmed as Director of National Intelligence. My team 1st encountered her while studying conspiracy theories denying chemical weapons attacks and other war crimes in Syria (~2017). She repeatly spread those false claims, echoing Russian disinfo. www.independent.co.uk/news/world/a...

www.foreignaffairs.com/united-state... This is by far the best, clearest and most realistic analysis of what we're in for that I've seen.

This from Sam is excellent and a must read to understand what is going on in the states. A genuinely important article. This is not random. It's not just trashing the joint. This is an ideologically revolutionary and anti-democratic group shooting their shot. It's the real thing.

Executive wants to frame the NIH indirects cut as $4B in savings. But given that NIH returns $2.5 on every $1 investment, this would actually cost US economy a net $6 BILLION (per year!). Not to mention the human costs of wrecking education and research sectors and the communities they serve.

So much is happening in the US right now it's hard to know where to focus. This is something that shouldn't get lost in the blizzard: Government computer systems have been massively breached. www.theatlantic.com/technology/a...
