Don’t touch Andor season 2 until I’ve done a full The Deuce rewatch. Gotta prime myself with the slow grind of commodified life and minimal hope before diving back into galaxy-brained rebellion!

Good critique of Palantir’s CEO’s new book, The Technological Republic where Silicon Valley runs the Pentagon, "woke" historians are purged, and AI-powered Singapore-style repression becomes the model. Just your friendly neighborhood military-industrial complex! www.bostonreview.net/articles/wha...

Swedish journalist Joakim Medin is being charged with 'insult' and 'membership of a terrorist organisation' by Turkish authorities. He risks a 12 year prison sentence. His trial starts on the 30th of April. All European journalists and human rights defenders need to speak out in full force.

Great piece by @jacobsilverman.com: The enshittified internet isn’t broken; it’s the logical endpoint of late capitalism. Platforms extract attention at any cost, replace human labor with AI slop, & call it innovation. The web is now a pay-to-play asylum run by monopolies. www.ft.com/content/5d06...

My long-ish academic take on Silicon Valley's reactionary futurism is out! Grab one of the 50 free copies using the link below. If you can’t access it and need a copy, just let me know. Here’s a brief thread summarizing the article: www.tandfonline.com/eprint/4H3KM...

Visited ARKEN yesterday; absolutely breathtaking. The architecture, the coastal light, and the art all come together in the most surreal way. A ship of modern beauty located just outside Copenhagen.

Interesting piece arguing that far-right populism isn’t rising from poverty; it’s rising from wealth. Financially secure boomers are backing riskier, right-wing politics not despite their comfort, but because of it. www.theguardian.com/business/202...

From my (hopefully) forthcoming piece on the rise of a "tech oligarchy":

Great piece on how tech moguls misinterpret SF, using it as a blueprint for their ventures. In fleeing imagined collapses driven by paranoia, racial anxiety, and fantasies of control, they’ve created the dystopias those stories warned against. www.theguardian.com/books/2025/a...

This is an insightful interview: Trump’s MAGA 2.0 foreign policy is 19th-century imperialism meets Silicon Valley techno-fascism: tariffs as bombs, Ukraine as a resource colony, and tech billionaires as the new warlords. The global far right is scrambling to keep up.

I saw this only just now, and it is unsurprising! I recently wrote a piece on Karp's book, The Technological Republic (hopefully out soon). The book outlines the ideological groundwork for a militarized tech oligarchy, merging corporate and state power under the guise of "resilience" & "patriotism".

Very pleased to write for Tribune about games and the radical imagination in a moment of gamified capitalism (and its fascist nightmares), w. words about Billionaires & Guillotines, the game I've made with @plutopress.bsky.social which you can help us crowdfund now. tribunemag.co.uk/2025/04/radi...

A powerful critique of today’s governing far-right ideology and Silicon Valley’s fantasy: upload wealthy minds into AI, escape to Mars, and let Earth burn. The plan? Militarized borders, mass deportations, bunkered nations, and apartheid survivalism. This isn’t just fascism—it’s "end times fascism".

“To put it bluntly, the most powerful people in the world are preparing for the end of the world, an end they themselves are frenetically accelerating.” www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-i...

Tech bros are now pushing to build Greenland into a “freedom city”— a low or no regulation, high-tech enclave echoing frontier nostalgia and libertarian utopias. Seems like Grønland is fast becoming as the site where expansionist dreams collide with speculative urbanism.

Peter Thiel-associated techbros want to build a libertarian ‘freedom city’ in Greenland as ‘a hub for artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, space launches, micro nuclear reactors and high-speed rail.’ By @rachlevy.bsky.social and @alexandraulmer.bsky.social www.reuters.com/world/europe...

Finance fails to fund what we actually need - housing, green energy, public health. Great convo on why we must democratize investment and give ordinary people real power to fight inequality and the consolidation of the far right.

"Empathy...is a bug in Western civilization". A powerful piece on how Musk and the Christian right are rebranding human compassion as weakness - the dehumanizing rhetoric that justifies today's cruelties. www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-i...

I had a great conversation with @quinnslobodian.com about finance and the far right...here is part 1:

#Crypto began as an anti-state, anti-credit project. Now it's an integral part of the state-backed credit system - just think of Trump’s 'Bitcoin Reserve'. How and why did this happen? Find answers in our new open-access article in @ripejournal.bsky.social: www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

Very happy to say that my article on Musk and Thiel's political theory of the founder (drawing on Lacan on the way) is out with @jcultecon.bsky.social! Strange to see it out there with all what happened in the last year, but it will hopefully make it a good read www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

Yesterday we did a book launch for "Finance Aesthetics" in London, the day after the worst three-day performance for the S&P 500 since October 1987 - if this is not an absurdly timely publication I dont know what is

Dear EISA members, My wonderful colleague Laura Horn is standing for the #EISA Governing Board. In these challenging times, her commitment to academic freedom, just and sustainable practices, and critical public engagement is so needed. I’ve just cast my vote for her - hope you will too!

Trump’s antisocial state abandons public welfare in favor of a patrimonial regime, where loyalty to the executive replaces collective security. Cooper discusses how resistance must reclaim distributional struggles and rebuild solidarity against this authoritarian capitalism, which has already begun.

Finally read Melinda Cooper’s chilling essay: Trump’s 2nd term isn’t "small government"; it’s a corporate coup. Project 2025 guts agencies to serve CEOs, while SCOTUS rubber-stamps authoritarian power. The goal? A state that works for Musk, not us! www.dissentmagazine.org/online_artic...

The Trump administration inadvertently put together an amazing syllabus on race and gender. Thanks, Trump!

Musk speaks at another meeting of a far right European political party, this time Italy’s Lega

‘Purged’?! What kind of governments purge? #Itusedtobethebadguys

Turkey is home to many brilliant academics, writers, and political voices. Yet, repeatedly elevating Elif Shafak feels like a Groundhog Day narrative, where the same voices are recycled while the real struggles on the ground are ignored. It’s time to listen to those who are living the struggle.

After X took down a ton of opposition accounts, over 200,000 Turkish users hopped onto Bluesky in just two days, and that number will likely keep growing. Musk's doing his usual thing, cozying up to far-right governments, but hey, it's pretty cool that so many Turks are discovering this new space!

Looking very much forward to Wednesday where I host the one and only @sorenmau.bsky.social in @d-ias.bsky.social at @sdu.dk. Søren will lecture on "Marx and the body". Do come by! Membership of @dkmarxsoc.bsky.social not required! sdunet.dk/en/updates/0...

Really looking forward to reading this new essay by @evgenymorozov.bsky.social.

The book I have been working on with Joost de Bloois and Stijn De Cauwer finally has a cover. We give an overview of contemporary Italian philosophy on topics like online fascism, posthumanism, Big Tech, migration, and much more.

Great piece: Silicon Valley's tech elites, like Balaji Srinivasan & Thiel, are reshaping governance, pushing for tech-controlled "network states" and bypassing democratic processes. It's clear they are now driving a reactionary futurist agenda, prioritizing corporate power over democratic values.

We're very excited to announce the publication of issue 11(1)! 143 pages packed with important & timely research on issues such as QE, the asset economy, Tesla, green finance, and inclusion, as well as three exciting essays/reviews featuring Wittgenstein, central banks & bailouts. Do check it out!

35 billionaires in Turkey hold nearly three times the wealth of the poorest 50% - around 42.5 million people. After two decades of the AKP government’s policies, wealth has concentrated at the top while millions struggle to get by. This isn’t a flaw in the system; it’s by design.
