Today is Disabled Day of Mourning, to honor disabled people killed by caregivers. Fellow journalists, when we write about these situations, we need to clearly call it murder, and not through a"poor caregiver" lens.

Today is Disability Day of Mourning. Please take a moment to remember those who have been lost at the hands of family and caregivers. We are also mourning those lost to COVID. Many disabled people are afraid for their lives right now, reasonably so. Please, just a moment, just remember them.

It’s insane to think that the Trump administration was more welcoming this week to the Tate brothers than to the President of Ukraine.

OK before you start with the mary shelley invented science fiction thing again, I need you to go and read more books that came from europe itself, then outside. Frankenstein doesn't even predate stuff on the continent, let alone the rest of the world

We don't want Trump in the UK. Please sign this petition and, if he does eventually come, let's show him just how unwelcome he is.

We are gradually inching towards the EU. Here’s a round up of all the incremental steps we heard about in February plus the major shift in geopolitics that might speed things up ⤵️ @eastangliabylines.co.uk

ppl getting angry at this but he's talking alliances and he's 100% right- you cannot trust a country where every 4 yrs the foreign policy does a complete 180 & tears up treaties and reneges on deals and withholds payments because some sheep farmers in Wisconsin think too many black women have jobs

The point of excluding categories of people from the military like this is to send the message that they are unworthy of citizenship, it is pure bigotry and the assumptions behind it are disproven by the honorable service of the people being targeted in the first place bsky.app/profile/bran...

GPs are working as uber drivers because they can't find work due to a lack of funding in the NHS

they’re trying to police how other countries treat trans people. they want their rules to be the world’s rules. fuck them straight to hell.

There's been so much attention to how Facebook/Twitter algorithms have been hijacked to advance conservative agenda, but little focus on Reddit. Underlying the Lively story is a bigger one about how Reddit is manipulated to control narratives and silence dissent. spitfirenews.com/p/the-blake-...

Ooooh. #NHS

The government talks all the time about wanting disabled people to work. Here I am working yet I can't get the medical care to keep working long term. Doctors won't fill out disability paperwork yet also won't give me the meds or treatments I need to keep working long term.

Huh, turns out you can't have private UNIDENTIFIED security assault and kidnap people because you don't like what they say at city hall Weird.

these are the kind of moves that'll eventually move the needle towards shifting power away from tech oligarchs

Bunch people accused me of misinformation saying they’re targeting the disease not the people with the disease. I’d like to ask: you think autism and ADHD and neurodivergence is a disease? And why exactly (and how exactly) do you think it’s ok to reduce the number of people with these conditions?

Exploited migrant farm workers in UK paid for picks, not hours. Workers not paid for in-work travel, time spent moving between workstations, team meetings, receiving instructions on equipment use. Employers violating employment rights. Need effective enforcement, not deregulation.

If anyone brings up the increase in autism diagnoses, here's a useful graph and article www.psu.edu/news/researc...

I think it’s not helpful to repeat claims that the administration is working on eliminating “DEIA” as though it’s some kind of corporate strategy; just say explicitly that they’re trying to eliminate diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, and explain how.

This thread is one year old today, and, unfortunately, it is even more important to be reading and preserving trans stories than when it started. I truly thank everyone who has contributed to it, everyone who has kept sharing it, and everyone who has made a point to buy books from these authors. 🧵

I've seen an old misunderstanding going around; that libraries don't benefit authors. But they do! A lot! Here's how:

Okay so you know I like to remind everyone how the American immigration system has been cruel for a very long time. But loading people on flights to deport them to countries that they are not from, like Iranians to Panama, is not business as usual.

When you can, avoid number-only date formats. Sighted users could be confused on whether the first number is the month or day. If you've incorrectly designated your document's language, screen reader users might hear the wrong date. Writing out the month prevents this confusion.

People vehemently believe that there are safety nets in place if you become disabled. That no matter what, you have all of your needs met. If you believe this, you’re in for a rude awakening if you ever become disabled.

Quick reminder that if you wanna get involved in politics the local level may seem like small potatoes but is in fact the basis of politics, and a place where lots of change can be effected. (Via @hawkwinglb.bsky.social )

In Jan, a new loan charge review was announced, as promised, by Labour. However, when the Terms of Reference were published, the victims were shocked. It was not what they had been promised at all.

Want to know just how truly off-the-rails with 'Trying To Ignore Things' the UK is being? A woman was shot in a pub here on Valentine's Day. Guns are illegal in the UK, and they haven't caught the shooter. This should, technically, be in headlines. But...nothing www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...
