Just wanna point out that LibDem/Green Oxfordshire was the absolute centre of the 15 min city conspiracy and today the LDs have added 15 seats and the Greens have more than doubled so it’s hardly electoral suicide. People like safe streets! @carlosmorenofr.bsky.social @filipwatteeuw.bsky.social

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen something so simultaneously absurd and disturbing: the House will vote Monday on a bill that would punish Americans for participating in boycotts of Israel with fines of up to $1 MILLION or prison terms up to TWENTY YEARS.

They can look forward to a load of tribunals then, which will cost stretched councils time and resources and I’d think that was the plan except it’s too clever

I saw this story breaking about Mike Waltz and noticed something weird about his phone in that he isn’t actually using “signal” as in the secure messaging app but is using something MUCH worse that I haven’t seen reported on yet. Quick thread but it’s an Israeli intel guy behind it

Andrea Jenkyns becomes first-ever Executive Mayor of Lincolnshire, her campaign pushed Lincolnshire DOGE (a direct reference to Musk public services cuts). Absolutely no consoling features, this is utterly regressive

Just seen a Staffordshire ward which has shifted overnight from nearly 70% Con vote to a Reform-Lib Dem marginal with Cons in third. Chaos...

the trouble with efficient FPTP maps is that when they break, they really break.

Ah, Surrey

Blue looking baffled by the fact we need to bring photo id to be allowed to vote. I had no good answers to his questions about the need for this and the danger of disenfranchising marginalised voters.

Thinking there should be a dark musical a la Oh What A Lovely War about the Yugoslavian War, just seen a post about a 1995 anniversary with Ako ne znaš što je bilo over the top (“If you don’t know what happened”), the materials are all there, 80s/90s Jugo pop is incredible, is anyone on this?

Plenty of discourse about the Spain/Portugal outage, NO-ONE is talking about the fact that M&S has paused online orders for several days

Even in the 1990s it was hell in the trenches of journalism

Happy tradition coming out of the pandemic, this is an annual watch when you wake up now

A reminder, as if you need it, that saying things like “let universities close” is a luxury political value that we simply cannot afford in this era of tariffs and uncertainty acjsissons.medium.com/what-now-for...

I have been very disappointed, although not really surprised, to see commentators attempt to blame renewables for yesterday's blackout in Spain and Portugal. Let me explain what they've said and why it is wrong. /1

Today is a great day for finance people on LinkedIn posting old selfies with @mark-carney.bsky.social.

Sucking up to wannabe dictators doesn’t mean they spare you, who knew

🎮 New post on gamification and real life 🎮 In case you are bored with the Canadian election - you monsters you - here's a quick thread on whether our broligarch overlords are confusing doing well in video games with doing well in life. 1/n benansell.substack.com/p/the-nongam...

I know no one likes a smug prick but: god I feel so smug, having decided vv early on never to buy into any form of even vaguely smart tech, my life, aside from my laptop and (soon to be gone) smartphone, is the same as it would have been in circa 2002, and that's just neat

This is amazing. Trump is actually *bragging* about making himself hated enough with Canadians to kneecap Poilievre, whose name he clearly can’t remember. All this pathological narcissist cares about is having massively influenced people - the fact he’s influenced them against him is irrelevant.

“Unlike some others we could mention.” **WINK WINK WINK** All the diplomatic subtlety of a charging rhino.

"I'm going to govern in econometrics" is a winning campaign slogan for the ages.

Alright, @sarahebond.bsky.social in her cruelty has made me aware of this remarkably incompetent talk Malcolm Gladwell gave and so I am going to inflict it on all of you by going through all of the mistakes he makes here in the hope that none of you will ever take him seriously again. 1/

Brilliant

@garius.bsky.social please let this be true

Useful correctives on Transpacific shipping data from 8.25. Eg: -Compare data year on year not week by week -blank (cancelled) sailings are normal (but now rising) -different effects on JIT chains which are going to be in trouble and goods which can be preordered and will have a few weeks’ cushion

It took 20 days bsky.app/profile/fint...

Hmm.
