Chuck Schumer suggests it is antisemitic to say what Israel is doing in Gaza is a genocide. Yet some of Israel’s own top scholars of genocide and the Holocaust, all of them Jewish - Omer Bartov, Amos Goldberg, Daniel Blatman - say it is a genocide in Gaza. Does Schumer consider them antisemite too?

this is a description of a gulag

I am begging blue state governors to have lunch this week with your adjutant general of the National Guard. Cannot stress enough how important this relationship is going to be in the near future.

Buckle up. Between tariffs & deliberate defiance of court orders, we are going to see markets roiling and a true Constitutional crisis. People are going to realize how crucial the rule of law is to our prosperity. www.wsj.com/us-news/law/...

Scientists have just cured pancreatic cancer in some patients with personalized mRNA vaccines. Pancreatic cancer. And this Trump administration wants to throw it all away. They’re throwing away a cure for cancer.

I agree with this 100%. The antiwar people are all mindless dolts, the Black Panthers are misogynistic thugs, and even dear Jenny gets punished with AIDS for daring to venture out on her own.

It’s the Golden Age of Constructed Ignorance.

The unitary executive theory is really just a way to cloak the morphing of a democratically elected president into a dictator with the appearance of legality. joycevance.substack.com/p/the-week-a...

one interesting thing about this is that no one on the “maybe tariffs are good” side of things has made an argument for why americans would be better off more low end manufacturing jobs versus making service jobs better paying and unionized

You don’t know who we just disappeared to El Salvador. Think about that.

Pet peeve: I hate how often ppl claim “all the researchers will just move to Europe/Canada!” You vastly under-estimate how little money there is there vs the USA- and unless that changes ASAP this loss is just going to decimate global science, full stop. 🧪🔭

Chuck Schumer playing into the idea here that we’re waiting to learn if Mamhoud Khalil broke the law. It’s horrific and embarrassing. The court filings are there and it has been clear that he has not been charged with a crime. This is completely absurd

NEW: Why trying to understand what the Trump admin did in response to the TRO matters. Planes were in the air. They kept going. What did they do, and why? I strongly believe that it matters for our future that we work to understand what is happening at times like this. Tonight, at Law Dork:

I think the Democratic Party should be led by people who think the Republican Party is bad. Try it for a bit and see what happens, you know? Just to mix things up a little.

This is a very sad story, but what makes me crazy is that people tried to explain that this is what would happen and got caricatured as "woke" hysterics www.usatoday.com/story/news/n...

Never stop grifting seems to be the mantra www.cnn.com/2025/03/11/p...

Coming bright and early, it’s our monthly all-Contrarian episode. We dig in to Trump’s joint address, a Rorschach test for a polarized country, and then the Court’s narrow rebuff of Trump. Plus the broader national legal landscape, where Trump is taking it on the chin, and a few thoughts about Musk.

Texas Christians still pushing the hate…

Wow!

Trump is an existential threat to our democracy who deserves a polite and decorous audience when he insults us and lies to our faces.

“Canada is killing our people.” I mean, for fuck’s sake, JD. He isn’t even a bully. He’s the kid who doesn’t have the guts to bully anyone himself, so he waits until the real bullies are done, then walks over to take a parting shot.

Voting no is the right move but this looks like messaging in any budget fight from the last 40 years, not messaging for the middle of a constitutional crisis that, among other things, makes budget deals meaningless and pointless. Run against Musk, not against Paul Ryan…

Evidently without any due process. bsky.app/profile/prem...

UPDATE — Secretary of State Marco Rubio has now commented on the Trump admin’s detaining & attempted green card revocation of a Columbia Gaza encampment student negotiator: “We will be revoking the visas and/or green cards of Hamas supporters in America so they can be deported.”

www.dailymail.co.uk/yourmoney/ar... Mark Cuban's Harsh Warning Swamp creature Elon Musk is shooting a hole in the bottom of the boat to reduce weight to take on huge tax cuts. Others see the chaos and tariff tango problems, but Cuban draws a direct line from govrnment job cuts to economic crash.

www.ft.com/content/0787... This is a serious summary with no paywall from a sometimes unserious FT A few notes: According to this article, Musk's chainsaw cuts will shave between 500,000 and 1.4 million jobs. The crackdown on undocumented workers (>5% of the workforce) will add to the job losses.

SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! We don’t want Kennedy hearing about this [This really is exciting news]

Also easy to lose sight of the fact that the president is appointing to prestigious positions the on-air people who cover him for the most-watched news network -- as they continue to cover him. Granted, Ingraham and Bartiromo aren't serious journalists. But still.

Has Trump ever once thanked Ukraine for its contributions to the American-led war in Iraq? Why isn’t he more grateful?! www.counteroffensive.news/p/ukraine-fo...

Will the Senate Democrats chicken out? Stay tuned:https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/sounds-like-senate-dems-may-not-hold-the-line

I'm waiting for the deeply reported piece on how General Dynamics and Lockheed feel about their international sales being jeopardized by Trump treating planes like a Kindle membership. [fixed]

This weakens our country for no reason.

Last night Fox aired vigilante porn of some Guardian Angels beating a migrant and stealing his shoes while Hannity cheered them on. www.huffpost.com/entry/sean-h...

Calm down, it’s just the private group of street thugs who all wear the same color uniforms, who have anointed themselves the protectors of the people and who violently assault vulnerable minorities with impunity. When, I ask, has that ever gone wrong before?

Just keeps getting worse. It now appears that GA head goon Sliwa lied to Hannity. The guy wasn’t a migrant, and wasn’t suspected of shoplifting. He was apparently interrupting Sliwa’s TV interview. So they beat him. They just pretended he was a shoplifting migrant to inflame Fox viewers.

i said this during the fracas over electing a speaker and it is still true now: there is, functionally speaking, no House majority. www.axios.com/2024/02/07/h...
