A little email I sent this morning. Small acts of resistance. Solidarity.

Happy Burns' Night! Hope those who celebrate have fun.

Hello, do I know any Francophone or bilingual FR-ENG journalists in Quebec (or elsewhere in Canada) who might be willing to give me some advice re: connecting with more French-speaking journos? Ty in advance!!!

For crying out loud. Grow. Up. "But it was the Tory's idea so we won't do it" is a fundamentally rubbish reason to scrap a project.

As a Cis woman who plays sports with transgender women i have never ever felt threatened by their presence in any way. I am not scared to compete with or against them, i am not threatened to have them in my locker rooms. Transgender women are women. They deserve the chance to compete with women.

Still mad about that PrEP thing. The history of queerphobia and AIDS research is something I covered thoroughly in my medical ethics classes and it infuriates me that we’re gonna have to relitigate this bullshit.

Happy Book Birthday to DEATH OF THE AUTHOR. Welcome. 🇳🇬🇺🇸💃🏿🤖🚀🌞🐬 Some reviews so far: Starred reviews from Booklist, Publishers Weekly, Kirkus, BookPage and Library Journal! “Fans of masterful storytelling should definitely check out DEATH OF THE AUTHOR.” -People Magazine

This dynamic baffles me, because it seems predicated on the idea that my resistance to encroaching fascism requires me see bad things over which I have little influence and no control. That's not empowering or educating. It's disheartening and depressing. So again: fuck that nonsense.

Hey everyone! Get on Pixelfed! Meta *hates* that!

If I were a company called “MasterClass,” I might consider taking down my Neil Gaiman course right now

It is impossible to overstate how amazing PrEP is and that it is one of the greatest medical breakthroughs in history. HIV was a literal death sentence when I was a teenager. No hope. This is a monumental achievement in human history. But no, not for us.

now is the time to call your Senators, again, and ask them not to vote for this horrifying attack on trans people Republicans need seven Dem votes to get this through the Senate - they got TWO in the House, which has many more members they can block this, and they must

Really appreciate this by MH Boroson. Something else awful about finding out people are the worst is seeing how they've obscured people who are better. Tanith Lee deserves. m.facebook.com/story.php?st...

I’m a bi/ace author, and THE GHOSTKEEPER is my YA cozy horror graphic novel about a therapist for ghosts (who is also bi/ace & in a queer relationship) 👻 🌈

Meta has told employees that they're laying off 5 percent of staff on Feb. 10, sources tell me & @mikeisaac.bsky.social @sheeraf.bsky.social. Layoffs are coming after employees have pushed back on new content moderation rules.

Lots of people have been saying their one work seems tainted, because it was inspired by the work of Neil Gaiman. I want to talk about Beatrice Portinari here. She was the (probable) subject of the greatest work in European literature, written in the 1300s by a massive creep called Dante. (thread)

the thing about neil gaiman, and weinstein, and cosby, and thousands of priests, and unknown large number teachers, coaches, stepdads, etc. is that when the dam breaks its turns out that they were shielded and often actively assisted by a much larger number of people. Some amount of men are /

This Neil Gaiman thing is disturbing, but now is a good time to make known that his behavior is NOT a representation of BDSM between CONSENTING adults. There are two terms known in the community: SSC (Safe, Sane, Consensual) and RACK (Risk Aware Consensual Kink) and he obviously practiced neither.

I've seen a lot of posts say "Neil Gaiman is a Monster." He's human. A HORRIFIC human, but a human. And I do not mean this as a "remember that he's a person so don't be mean" bullshit thing. I mean it as a "do not forget that humans have the capacity for true evil" thing. 1/ 🧵

What Neil Gaiman did was not BDSM. It was torture, abuse, psychological manipulation and degradation. May his legacy be picked apart by vultures.

some stray thoughts on that Neil Gaiman article: -it's very graphic, so read it at your own risk -it's clear that he has quite a bit of untreated trauma from his past in Scientology -trauma is NEVER an excuse to cause someone else trauma--which he proceeded to knowingly do again and again

Neil Gaiman is a litmus test of "do you really care about the victims" based on if you're more worried about the victims or the art It's fine to be disappointed because you really enjoyed his works, but consider that truly not mattering. Bad people can make good art. You have to accept that fact.

CN: CSA One of these screenshots I saw from the Neil Gaiman article was about abuse of his son. People aren’t naming it precisely enough - it’s child sexual abuse to expose a minor to sex acts, in-person like he did, or by showing them videos or images, which is common too. Call it what it is.

Much like the expose on Neil Gaiman - you absolutely do not have to bear witness to horrible things just to do so. It is 100% ok to protect your mental health and well-being by not reading about horrible things or not watching horrible events. You can acknowledge things without taking on more pain.

the shit w neil gaiman makes me so angry because he is so self aware, he fucking knew what he did was wrong and wrote stories ab men like himself, and he STILL fucking did what he did. abhorrent. disgusting. i do not have words.

The Neil Gaiman allegations are now pretty well substantiated, and I want to say something: I've admired his work for many years, and Beyond the a Wall always had a strong influence from Sandman. This is still a gut punch, but... Believe women. Many men are good at the appearance of being good.

If you follow Neil Gaiman on this or any other platform, please reconsider. That includes a *lot* of people I know.

The fundamental issue I take with "there's no way anyone could have known!" as a stance w/ regard to sexual predators like Neil Gaiman is that implies that there's: Nothing to learn from this No way to prevent this Which are two things I fundamentally cannot agree with at all

Between the California prison system's firefighter program and the Neil Gaiman stuff, I'm realizing people don't understand that consent under duress is not consent

Men. Neil Gaiman was a viper who absolutely rocked the empath’s clothing. Don’t take it personally when women rightfully mistrust us. We have not earned the benefit of the doubt.

Gentle reminder to anyone made inarticulate by the Neil Gaiman story: your feelings are valid, whether you choose to share them on social media or not.

Nice people are struggling over the revelations on Gaiman, and something I keep hearing is, 'His work had a big influence on how I shaped my own identity.' So here's something to remember: You did that. He didn't do it for you. 1/

Take great care with that Gaiman article. It is an incredible piece of journalism and I deeply wish I had not read it.

There are SO many male authors like Gaiman still flying under the radar and I hope today they are shitting their pants.

I’m not gonna read the Gaiman piece. I believe victims when they say he’s a monster. I don’t need the nauseating details. It’s perfectly ok for you to make the same choice. You’re not obligated to traumatize yourself.

This Neil Gaiman news is something else … It’s also why we push back when men shout “not all men”. It’s too many men and once again we never know how to tell. Gaiman was considered a champion of women & a feminist supporter. We never know until it’s too late.
