I think Kendrick was real without being real real in the way that only poetry can be and I think rap should be.

I think what happened with Biggie and Pac – which was the the biggest beef arguably until now, meant something in that it reflected the perils of the experiences of racialised urban boys and young men – especially black boys and men. But it was unintentional and a tragedy.

This powerful statement about pedophilia being unacceptable and incompatible with hip hop but also statements about what rap music is and should be. Statements about the history and tradition of that genre and its place in the canon of black American art.

Beefs are a tradition in hip hop which has reached some appalling depths both in terms of real and manufactured ones. This might be the first one that makes the kinds of statements that are fit for a Pulitzer winner.

Like for a man to summon such an intense demand for the rejection of someone who had been handed the throne in their genre in that way and succeed I think means something when generations of stars and entourages have behaved like Drake and co. I think that means something.

I hope the 45 Māori who live in Akaroa are excited for their esteemed guest.

Nah but it feels like an endorsement of the absurd idea that the British saved Māori from the French and earned sovereignty as a result. 🤢

I’ve seen the consequence of senior staff at council lacking te tiriti knowledge, and it’s that the ‘damn pipes’ don’t get fixed.

This goes both ways if any of your are singing songs on Paul Sweezy’s birthday you should not get to represent anyone
