But also I still love so much of it!

Oh yeah, lots of conversations. They’re as much for me as for her. It’s good to tell myself, as an adult, that all that shit I internalized is not actually ok!

Then again, I guess that’s what it was like.

Also—my god how lucky am I to suddenly have an expert on the line?—do you have a favorite 90s thing that does hold up? It doesn’t have to be perfect, but I’m on this quest to show my kid what it was like but maybe with a little less homophobia, racism, fat phobia, and general rapiness.

That’s too bad, but I’m not surprised. I don’t think they hold up in my memory either, if I think very hard.

I just started a rewatch. She's so perfect I almost can't stand it.

Thank you. Also you’re great. And what a lucky person I am to get to first love a person’s book and then have a fun weird conversation and other people even want to read it.

My kid used to say that it was better to walk than drive because your feet massaged the earth but car tires crushed it.

I was thinking of something quite a bit more absurd. But thank you that is amazing.

But absolutely, it’s not ok.

I mean, I haven’t seen anyone I actually respect (or respected) saying it, if that helps at all.

I hate the whole “this is a distraction” thing people do because they usually mean “this thing is happening to other people, not me.”

Yes, but it doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

Yeah. Well, I didn't know until I knew. And I did know sooner than many in my life, but I don't see the point in acting or feeling superior to them. I don't see the point in competing for who saw the doom first. I'd just rather put my efforts elsewhere.

You're right I absolutely should have predicted all of this when I was in elementary school.
