Starlink should be banned from European markets on national security grounds. Anything requiring Starlink should be shut out of the European market, and sanctions should be considered against all relevant actors. kyivindependent.com/us-threatens...

“The postwar era is over. The global architecture built in 1945 is being burned to ground by Trump. Europeans need to plan for, & invest in, a future where they have to defend themselves without the US.That future does not loom in the distance. It is already here” www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

"Europe must chart its own course...Most agree defence spending must rise, financed by new borrowing. Expanded joint weapons production and procurement is essential; $300bn in frozen Russian assets should be seized to fund Ukraine." - Simon Tisdall www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Lâchée par Trump, l’Europe doit se trouver un nouveau Churchill

My thesis here is that it’s presumptuous and deluded to claim UK can still be “bridge” between US/EU. Real task is to avoid burning bridges w either. But, balance moving decidedly towards weaning ourselves off US dependency, and moving closer to EU, as US interests/values diverge from ours.

This agreement makes no sense and has no benefits for Ukraine, while also officializing the idea Ukrainians should pay back a massively inflated amount of past aid — I have no idea why some in Europe are pushing Zelensky to sign it

⚡️EU preparing military aid package for Kyiv worth $20.9 billion, Bloomberg reports. The additional military support would supply Kyiv with air defense systems, artillery ammunition, long-range missiles, and drones.

To be fair - we should probably put NATO into administration and drive Europe to fill the defence space... ...a *complete* reversal of the previous dynamic, I am fully aware, but actually a huge opportunity for Europe (manufacturing, R&D, hard power, cybersecurity, procurement cohesion, etc, etc).

Usefully sober fact sheet on Ukraine. Please share with those who need it. understandingwar.org/backgrounder...

Last night's Pentagon massacre is much more than realized. Not just firing the black CJCS and first woman CNO but all the senior JAG officers and hiring a man who just joined 3 different crypto firms tied to Kushner and Thiel as Chairman. I did a deep dive into it open.substack.com/pub/fpwellma...

“Britain must choose between an unstable alliance with Trump or aligning with a resilient, unified Europe”

Europe's politicians are openly discussing how they could tackle the threat of nuclear attack without American help, in a dramatic sign of the deep crisis engulfing the transatlantic alliance under Donald Trump.

Rep Raskin has been great. Rep Ocasio-Cortez has been great. And Rep Frost and Rep Crockett. Senator Murphy. Maybe no one knew exactly what to do. But such people laid down a clear marker. Let’s respect these and other elected federal representatives who stood out these first few weeks.

Bannon has a bit of a "I can't afford to sue all of you if you call it a Nazi salute" half heartedness to it that Musk's didn't.

‘We have a rule when we hear the sirens: if you’ve started operating, you don’t stop’: 24 hours with doctors on the Ukrainian frontline Everyone should read this powerful & heartbreaking article from @doctoroxford.bsky.social www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

Current American foreign policy is about draining power from the US and its allies, thereby creating atmospherics in which Donald Trump feels good and Elon Musk converts lost state capacity into personal profit. The weakness, in other words, is the point. snyder.substack.com/p/affirmativ...

Trump’s framing of these talks is so wrong. 1) Why does Russia have any right to any sovereign Ukrainian territory? 2) Why’s the US “mediating”? Have both parties asked it to? 3) How can the US be a mediator when it’s seeking its own material gain from at least one party? 4) Why exclude Europe?

"Yes it was a very productive meeting. We spent nearly four and a half hours agreeing that Mr Putin was right." #Ukraine #PeaceTalks

‘a prominent German politician told me: “That was a direct assault on European democracy.” A senior diplomat said: “It’s very clear now, Europe is alone.” When I asked him if he now regarded the US as an adversary, he replied: “Yes.”…’ on.ft.com/4b2uPNM

The British government is facing a fresh demand from Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey to shelve the parliamentary recess after Keir Starmer pitched UK involvement in a post-war peacekeeping force in Ukraine.

"Europe must now start the painful process of “de-risking” its relationship with the US, looking for areas of dangerous dependence on America and stripping them out of the system.” from @gideonrachman.bsky.social www.ft.com/content/11f1...

Russian media report that Lavrov and Ushakov are flying to Riyadh to meet a U.S. delegation tomorrow. Possible topics include negotiations on the Russia-Ukraine war, arranging a Trump-Putin meeting, and restoring Russian-American relations.

This is no time for trite slogans “Keep Calm and Carry On.” We cannot carry on as we were before. No wishful thinking, “it’s just a phase”End delusions. America under Trump is not our friend. There’s no “soft landing” for the UK. We need to club together with like minded countries, and resist.

⚡Starmer open to deploying British troops for Ukraine peacekeeping effort. U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer wrote in an article for the Telegraph on Feb. 16. that he did not take lightly the idea of placing British servicemen and women in harm’s way.

1. Trump and his Death Eaters cannot tolerate any rival power. Europe, when united, is a major trading and diplomatic bloc. They see Russia (much less of a threat to US hegemony) as an excellent instrument for breaking up Europe, by threat or by force.🧵

I don’t see much value in continued Five Eyes cooperation with Trump in the White House, Vance and Musk supporting far right pro-Russian parties and someone like Gabbard as DNI

UK Labour maintaining the government’s appeal against « Liberty » and trying to keep abusive undemocratic Tory legislation against legitimate demonstration rights is so “on brand” for Statmer. As a PM, he really follows the Tory tradition of incompetent authoritarians.
