I read books. I read a lot of books. I have weird friends. I have a ton of different interests. I read even more books. I'm a full-time librarian at a library on an Air Force base. I sometimes forget I have social media profiles. I have three cats.

My (better late than never) reading update: 24% through 'The Lantern of Lost Memories' by Sanaka Hiiragi. Its saving grace is that it's short. It's boring, otherwise. 40% through 'The King in Yellow' by Robert W. Chambers. I guess what inspired Lovecraft? #reading #BookSky πŸ“šπŸ’™

I slayed my literary dragon and finished 'Wind and Truth' by Brandon Sanderson just now. Not a lot to say here, if you've read this far in the series, this book is a worthy pause to it all. Bravo. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #BookSky #bookreview πŸͺπŸ“šπŸ’™ Full review (such as it is): www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

I finished 'Mal Goes to War' by Edward Ashton today, it was...fine I guess. Character driven, no real plot except for the last couple chapters. The humor was pretty good, but not a lot else. ⭐⭐⭐ Full review: www.goodreads.com/review/show/... #BookSky #bookreview πŸͺπŸ“šπŸ’™

I picked up the audiobook for 'Mal Goes to War' by Edward Ashton today. He's the guy who wrote Mickey7, for anyone keeping score. Seems okay so far, bit tongue-in-cheek with the humor, a bit like Andy Weir or a darker Martha Wells. Not sold on the initial setup, though.

I finished 'How Would You Like Your Mammoth?' by Uta Seeburg today. With 50 essays in less than 300 pages, there's not a lot of room for depth or development. Kind of forgettable as well, despite the interesting factoids. ⭐⭐⭐ Full review: www.goodreads.com/review/show/... #BookSky #bookreview πŸ“šπŸ’™

I started and finished 'The Boyfriend' by Freida McFadden yesterday/today. Better than the other one I read by her, but the MC is an idiot who ignored red flags all around her for the sake of sex with a Hot Guy. C'mon now. ⭐⭐⭐ Full review: www.goodreads.com/review/show/... #BookSky #bookreview πŸ“šπŸ’™

I finished 'The Devil's Playground' by Craig Russell today. I expected more out of a book set in 1920s Hollywood about a cursed movie. What I got were more names than I could keep track of, and an overwritten mystery. ⭐⭐⭐ Full review: www.goodreads.com/review/show/... #BookSky πŸ“šπŸ’™ #bookreview

Next up is 'The Devil's Playground' by Craig Russell. I guess some sort of thriller about a terrifying silent film that was made, and there's only one copy of in existence? Kinda cliche, but I don't know of many books involving silent films. #BookSky #reading πŸ“šπŸ’™

I finished 'The Crescent Moon Tearoom' by Stacy Sivinski today. Just a cute cozy fantasy, not a lot of depth, doesn't ask a lot of the reader, just a book. Felt a little scattered in places, but otherwise fine. #BookSky #bookreview πŸͺπŸ“šπŸ’™ Full review: www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

I finished it today! #crossstitch #crafting #reading

My next read is 'The Forest of Wool and Steel' by Natsu Miyashita. I'm a sucker for Japanese fiction, and the cover of this is fantastic. Small Japanese town involving piano tuners? I'm down. #BookSky #reading πŸ“šπŸ’™

I finished 'Pangu's Shadow' by Karen Bao. Not bad, but lacking something to make me feel for the characters. Their romance was also rushed, and was heavyhanded with the social issues. Great depiction of the world, though. ⭐⭐⭐ #BookSky #bookreview πŸͺπŸ“šπŸ’™ Full review: www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Gross.

I'm having A Day, so I thought I'd do some dumb post about what I'm reading. I'm: 65% through 'Pangu's Shadow' by Karen Bao. I like picking up these little-known books, because you never know what you're going to get. Mostly enjoyable, with some character development hangups. #reading #BookSky πŸ“šπŸ’™

The King on his throne #cats #catsofbluesky

I finished 'With Regrets' by Lee Kelly today. All I'll say here is that I spent the entire book rooting for the Glimmer, if that tells you anything. ⭐⭐ #BookSky πŸ“šπŸ’™ #bookreview Full review: www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

I finished 'Burn' by Peter Heller. Dystopian only in name, hiding a fiction book about two guys hunting in Maine when bridges get blown up and towns burned down. Lots of flashbacks to growing up, not much of an ending. ⭐⭐⭐ #BookSky πŸ“šπŸ’™ #bookreview Full review: www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

"On the Way of the Samurai, there is no greater achievement than conquering oneself." 'Samurai Wisdom Stories' by Pascal Fauliot #reading #bookquote #BookSky πŸ“šπŸ’™

In case anyone was still curious, here's my progress so far. Who knew this would turn into something I'd stick with. I also picked up a book of sparky cat-themed patterns, and I also included a pic of what I think my next project will be. #crossstitch #crafting #mynewhobby

I finished 'The Other Valley' by Scott Alexander Howard. An interesting premise wasted on high school drama and a flat, emotionless main character. Thought it'd be way more mysterious/intriguing than it was. ⭐⭐⭐ #BookSky πŸ“šπŸ’™ #bookreview Full review: www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

I finished 'The Outcast Mage' by Annabel Campbell. Started rough, but turned into a compelling political fantasy by the end. Hangups about the info dumping and the lack of a bad guy. A fantastic ending. Book two, when? ⭐⭐⭐⭐ #BookSky πŸͺπŸ“šπŸ’™ #bookreview Full review: www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

"O, my lord, if you are the one who must depart first, Wait for me at the fork of the road to hell!" Benkei to Yoshitsune, 'Samurai Wisdom Stories' by Pascal Fauliot They certainly had a way with words back then. #reading #bookquote #BookSky πŸ“šπŸ’™

I'm: 81% through 'The Outcast Mage' by Annabel Campbell. Almost done. I have problems with it, but there's redeeming qualities as well. 39% through 'The Other Valley' by Scott Alexander Howard. Great premise kind of tempered by the point of view being a young teen. #reading #BookSky πŸ“šπŸ’™

Happy National β€œBack to work” day y’all

Dipping my toes back into the sci-fi/speculative fiction pool with my next read, 'The Other Valley' by Scott Alexander Howard. Kinda giving me ship-in-a-bottle/Stuart Turton book vibes so far. #BookSky πŸͺπŸ“šπŸ’™ #reading

I finished 'Gods of Jade and Shadow' by Silvia Moreno-Garcia on the drive in today. It ended up being an enjoyable Mayan fairytale set in 1920s Mexico. Ending was a bit predictable, but the journey was worth it. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ #BookSky πŸͺπŸ“šπŸ’™ #bookreview Full review: www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Ruby joined our household unexpectedly this year when we found her under a truck at Lowe's. Here's my three favorite pics of her, and while she still adamantly refuses to be picked up, she does love pets (on her terms). Happy New Year, Ruby! #cats #catsofbluesky #newyear #ruby

My three favorite Franklin pictures of 2024. Here's to 2025, you huge fuzzy dude! #cats #catsofbluesky #newyear #franklin

I'll take it. 20,000 pages read isn't anything to sneeze at, and I read some great books this year. #reading #BookSky πŸ“šπŸ’™ #newyear

Out with the old, in with the new. #cats #catsofbluesky #franklin

I'm: 34% through 'The Outcast Mage' by Annabel Campbell. I have strong thoughts about this book so far, and not all of them good. 24% through 'Wind and Truth' by Brandon Sanderson. Really good, but I'm focusing on the other right now. I don't like Shallan in the later books. #reading #BookSky πŸ“šπŸ’™

Now that I'm finished with my personal reading goal for 2024, I feel a bit more free to pick up longer audiobooks. Moving onto 'Gods of Jade and Shadow' by Silvia Moreno-Garcia now. This has been on my to-read list since 2019, and I love the cover. #BookSky πŸͺπŸ“šπŸ’™ #reading

I finished 'The Salt Grows Heavy' by Cassandra Khaw. Prose so purple it was black buried a creepy story in a confusing mess. A folklore-esque story about a mermaid and a plague doctor saving a town of children from surgeons is what I got out of it. ⭐⭐ #BookSky πŸͺπŸ“šπŸ’™ #bookreview Full review here:
