Drafted and deleted around five posts on how I'd appreciate it if society could collectively stop acting like memos now supersede laws. Found it hard to simultaneously express that legal fundamentals have historically only been reliable for sociopolitically dominant segments of a population anyway.

This is really good

My jaw hit the floor here.

for as long as I've been covering politics the chattering classes have demanded that Democrats lead on bipartisanship and it turns out that—as I've always suspected!—it's the exact quality that voters do not want in their politicians

Hey, #Philly! I’m so excited to welcome my friend Rebecca Yarros to my hometown this weekend to celebrate the long-awaited release of ONYX STORM! The event is sold out, but I hope to see a few members of my crew at the Miller Theater this Saturday. 🖤🐲💛

A bit random, but here we are. Tiana’s back on the USA Today list!

I've updated this campaign, but here's the tl;dr: everything is frozen, insurance companies are not my friends, and new meds are spendy. Also, my cat is cute. gofund.me/6bd3f24a

It's been beautiful to watch this unfold over the past years. So happy for us African readers and writers ❤️

Hey, just over 6 hours until tonight's @tbrcon.bsky.social panel on cozy fantasy with @sarahbethdurst.bsky.social, @momteacherwriter.bsky.social , @travisbaldree.bsky.social, Mariana Costa and @marshalljmoore.bsky.social! You can open up the tab right now: www.youtube.com/live/an6_1XX...

My current hyperfixation is “leftists and liberals continuing their never-ending social media bickering about who is the worst while the libertarian tech bros who control said social media sites take their places at Trump’s side during the inauguration.”

CBS is considering "offer[ing] concessions to win approval" of a merger by ***paying the President off*** in a baseless lawsuit he filed. How do you lose the rule of law? Gradually, then suddenly. Not a drill.

I cannot think of a better metaphor for America right now than the Washington Post's mission statement changing from “Democracy Dies in Darkness” to “Riveting Storytelling for All of America.”

The Alliance of Gezira and Managil Farmers has launched a We Must Plant Campaign in central Sudan to purchase seeds and inputs for 1500 families to plant inside their home compounds. You can support them here: sudansolidarity.com

Once more with feeling and a dollop of frustration … Taking our work without permission or payment is theft. thttps://www.theguardian.com/technology/2025/jan/14/british-novelists-criticise-government-over-ai-theft#img-1

Welp. Apple snuck something dirty in our phones last night. Settings > Apps > (pick an app) > Siri > Learn From this App TOGGLE OFF. You have to go through each app. My garage app, my BANKING APPS, others had that turned on automatically. 😡

More trope boxes are up in the shop and now I get to GO TO BED, this was a lot of photographs and photoshopping for one evening. lol (still just one of each and I may not be remaking these as the red sparkle was a bit of a PITA!) thebrokencircle.etsy.com

You can basically find-replace most of the terms in this article and it applies to everything from the games industry to book publishing and beyond. It's a problem across EVERYTHING right now. We need people who understand their business back in charge, not just people who understand "business".

If you are wondering about who to give to on this list, the orange color means they still need a lot of help. I looked to find whose GFM's were far off from reaching their goal and donated to a couple of those. We all we got, y'all. Even if you can only do $5, please do so. And share the list.

Congratulations to @alyssacolelit.bsky.social and all the @naacp.bsky.social Image Award nominees in the Outstanding Literary Work - Fiction - category. Alyssa Cole is nominated for her novel “One of us Knows.” Great books nominated. ✍🏾📚 #BlackBookSky #BookSky

As with most AI-related news, I find myself asking "what is the fucking point?" (I mean, apart from making money for tech companies.)

There is a warrant out for President Yoon's arrest. During the martial law he had a private black ops network of retired special forces that he ordered to mass murder protestors. They were called Oldboys, and were armed with hammers. Only reason it didn't happen is because all the Oldboys said no.

I've been dreading this. The company had a big downgrade in quality this year while simultaneously nearly doubting the cost of their databases. Service is intermittent and tech support is barely available.

This book is so good! Excellent Christmas world building. Even Krampus shows up.

Scrooge: You there, boy! What day is it? ChatGPT: Days were invented by the Druids in 1974

My appreciation of collards (from heritage seeds to the plate, braised, in soups, on sandwiches*, etc.) and the writing of @alexispauline.bsky.social are both well documented on here. 😂 📌 *collard and mushroom melt

Other countries like Finland are vaccinating farm workers, who are the vast majority of humans getting bird flu right now. The U.S. is not vaccinating farm workers for bird flu. The idiotic rationale from U.S. health officials is that it’s because bird flu isn’t spreading between humans yet.

And oddly enough it doesn't require the output of a dedicated nuclear reactor to power it.

All I want for Christmas is for people who know better to stop using Chatpp “just to see something”.

The movie about the 6 Triple 8 is trending but I haven’t seen anyone mention Kaia Alderson’s historical novel Sisters in Arms. Here ya go: a.co/d/dgMSV9s

This book is so great! Fantastic worldbuilding/Santa lore, a sense of hopefulness that permeates the story (and then the reader), comforting exploration of grief and death, and, of course, it’s very horny. I really think this will become a go-to comfort read for many people.

I’m just not sure the message that CEOs are worth more than you is a way to make people less angry at them.

I think a lot about this quote from Anaïs Nin’s diary from 1939-1944: “America is in even greater danger because of its cult of toughness, its hatred of sensitivity, and someday it may have to pay a price for this, because atrophy of feeling creates criminals”.

This is what's so baffling about so many suggestions for AI in the humanities classroom: they mistake the product for the point. Writing outlines and essays is important not because you need to make outlines and essays but because that's how you learn to think with/through complex ideas.
