I think it’s telling that after finishing it I installed God of War Ragnarok from PS+ and after a couple of hours with that I’m mainly feeling like rolling a new character in Veilguard.

The combat gameplay is top tier although not quite varied enough for the 100 hour runtime (if you go for the 100% completion). It helps though that they made respeccing trivial and that the loot system is streamlined very well. It’s all very smooth and digestible.

The main plot keeps the entire thing together quite well, even if they jettison a lot of nuance from the previous games to fit in the bombast of this one. Some all-timer set pieces in the main quest. They really should’ve called this game Dread Wolf though!

The rest of the companion plotlines very uneven and culminate in just big shrugs, which is a bummer because outside of those characters like Neve and Lucanis are great

The main issues I have is certain safety the game takes in its character interactions and the varying quality of dialogue. The companions are mostly good, although from their plotlines I think only Emmerich’s is consistently well written and Taash’s was good but could’ve used one more pass
