Only a few days left to nominate your 2024 stories! Think your story doesn’t involve arthropods enough? Don’t self-reject! Submit it anyway! 🪲🐞🦋

I saw this set of posters at the San Francisco #TeslaTakedown this past Saturday. It was quite a potent example of utilizing popular myth to challenge fascism. Anything we can do to harness positive, empowering myths will help undo the lies spun by fascist forces.

Oops, thought I'd filled both 2025 issues of Weird Horror. I am 8k words shy in issue 11 (Fall). Instead of opening for a full month for 2 slots I am open today til Feb. 28, end of day. No reprints. 5k words max. 2-cents per word. Simul subs okay. Send to weirdhorrormag (at) gmail (dot) com

If you look at all my horror novels, it's a story about how people are kinda terrible (QUESTION NOT MY SALT), so withdraw from society (OUT OF CURIOSITY AND HUNGER) or maybe walk into a cave and never return (DEEP DOWN). (NOCTURNE covers all three.)

Rosarium Publishing is open to submissions for their PLANET BLACK JOY anthology. We’re looking for spec-fic stories between 3-7k words about joy and pleasure by women and nonbinary folk who identify as Black, African, or Afro-descendent. Deadline is July 1. rosariumpublishing.com/planet-black...

i have been thinking about how in my lifetime i saw trans people treated as inhuman, or a punchline - then we had close to a decade of progress, Laverne Cox on the cover of TIME, etc. & now i am witnessing the start of a cultural genocide like i have never seen in my lifetime. it's rough

"The Time Warp" Grey's Anatomy S06E15: How powerful is it that the Chief &the first Dr. Grey treating a man w/AIDS (then GRID) in his last days during the epidemic's height are played by J. August Richards, a gay man, and Sarah Paulson, a lesbian, &they were only ones to hold his hands in the end.

In light of everything happening, I wrote about how the KKK in the 1920s felt unstoppable, about the people that fought against them anyway, and about how fascism always fails. dansinker.com/posts/202…

Dear Manager, this week I: - Learned that sometimes dead is better. - Cleaned my Derry bathroom from a font of blood. - Didn't bully a psychokinetic teenage girl. - Left the Overlook before it closed for winter. - Washed my hands and masked against Capt Trips.

Dear Federal Government, here are some of my accomplishments this week: - I drank a whiskey drink - I drank a vodka drink - I drank a lager drink - I drank a cider drink - I sang the songs that remind me of the good times

Although I'm not a gambler, I'm making the bet that the near future will be better. I hope it doesn't backfire.

It's hard to tell whether it's my mood or the movie--probably a little of both--but I wasn't thrilled with Cuckoo. It felt...repetitive, I think.

Subs close in less than a week! Here's some stats: 101 submissions received & logged. 10 holds received. But there's still room for more! @crystallake.bsky.social

I'm gonna keep reposting examples of people not taking shit because it's important for us to see that you can, simply, reject the shit. Say "Uh... no no no, we will not be tolerating that."

vaccines are miracles and the scientists and doctors who work for years to develop them are amazing

Rep Raskin has been great. Rep Ocasio-Cortez has been great. And Rep Frost and Rep Crockett. Senator Murphy. Maybe no one knew exactly what to do. But such people laid down a clear marker. Let’s respect these and other elected federal representatives who stood out these first few weeks.

To get a sense of some of the specific types of grant research being affected at universities by the anti-DEI McCarythism here is excellent student reporting with details…

This is one of the big things I am thinking about at this moment: how the place where we were is because when it came to equality, white America always went just far enough to feel good about themselves, but never far enough to feel good about other people.

This is really something

You know, they never stop at one group. Never. They come for one, they (eventually) come for all. They start with the smallest because they know the others will go about their business, thinking it will never happen to them. We should all be thinking about this. Because they will get to you.

I just want to make my silly little art, not become an expert in politics and beg my representatives to do their damn jobs.

Happy book release to one of my closest friends @emmaemurray.bsky.social! THE DROWNING MACHINE is out today from @undertakerbooks.bsky.social, featuring EXQUISITE HUNGER, originally published under my old company Medusa Haus, and an array of stories showcasing one of the leading talents in horror.

What's going on, Friday Update: amandamblake.com/2025/02/21/c...

READ. BLACK. WEIRD. FICTION.

I actually really enjoyed The Watchers.

Ordinary people built and downloaded apps to identify Canadian products to better support their country. The groundswell of support for Canada among its scions has been inspiring to see.

Not true. I'll give you some examples of when styles crossed over from womenswear to menswear, and how men have worn straight-up womenswear or just feminine styles in cool ways. 🧵

It's almost Friday, your energy might be flagging, so here's a reminder... Not a moment you spend on your WIP is ever wasted. 1) Write it, but you scrap it = progress. 2) Write it, and you use it = progress. 3) Write it, but you rewrite it = progress. It all leads to finished books. Keep going! 🖤

Announcing the inaugural HORROR TALENT SHOWCASE, a monthly open-mic night featuring readings from writers in all stages of their careers. Whether you’re a bestseller or unpublished, you are welcome. This is a FREE Zoom event open to up to 100 attendees. A small act of joyful resistance. 🖤

When I shave my head is probably when I look the most ambiguous, but it's also when I feel the most feminine. Choke on that.

This whole saga has, I think, demonstrated very well my contention that American political journalists believe that they deserve all of the respect and deference that comes with filling a vital societal role, while rejecting the idea that holding such a position also entails duties and obligations.

REVEALED: we identified the operator of an overtly racist X account, "GlomarResponder," as ICE Assistant Chief Counsel James Rodden, based on an overwhelming number of biographical details matched through publicly available documents, other social media activity, and courtroom observation.

PETE: “What we have to do now is make clear we do want government to work differently and better than it has, but burning it to the ground won’t do that for anyone.”

This is your PSA that some wheelchair users are ambulatory: we can stand and even walk a little. Think of it like this: an abled person can walk a mile. But for an 80 mile trip they're more likely to use a tool like a car or train. Same deal, shorter distances for ambulatory wheelchair users.

Dark Pence is back.

Your average shitposter could do a better job than the entirety of the Democratic Party's comms team.

Loving this judge

The BIPOC-only short story collection submission call runs until the end of February. Then, from March 7th through the 21st, we have submission calls for our next few zines (see the attached image). Read more about these calls here: cursedmorsels.com/submission-c...

For the evening crowd - I forgot to mention: some 30-odd years after his tour, Dad had surgery to cut (yet more) shrapnel out of his back and legs. This was just before 9/11; he used to set off metal detectors in airports - and he was very, very glad that he had it removed when he did.

In 2019, RFK Jr visited Samoa to spread anti-vax lies, spurring a measles outbreak that led to the deaths of 83 people - mostly children. We can’t let that tragedy repeat in Texas. The MMR vaccine is 97% effective at preventing measles. Let’s stop the spread. www.cbsnews.com/news/texas-m...

This is why the Tesla boycott/divestment strategy can work where others have failed. If we can move Tesla stock, we can wipe out a huge amount (if not all) of Elon Musk's wealth. This opportunity is too important not to pursue all-out. #TeslaTakedown

They want you to believe transphobia is the norm. It isn’t. Most people don’t hate us. The norm is cowardice. They goal is to scare you all into compliance. You rebel by just not being a coward.

You know, I was thinking about it, and I don't think I ever won Oregon Trail.

This is fucking incredible.
