This is for @gtconway.bsky.social Five things I did last week. 1. Took too much ketamine 2. Danced onstage with a chainsaw 3. Ignored my new baby momma 4. Laughed at my own jokes. 5. Neglected all of my children except for the one I use as a human shield.

Here’s my prediction for DOGE: Whatever minimal amount of money it may possibly save in the short term will be far exceeded by the ultimate cost of fixing all of the problems it creates. It’s already an epic failure.

State media watch

Five things I accomplished last week: 1. Sued Musk & DOGE (repeatedly) 2. Got Musk blocked out of Treasury 3. Sued Trump (repeatedly) 4. Helped persuade SCOTUS to leave anti-Trump injunction in place 5. Got booked @theweekendmsnbc.bsky.social Join us at 9 AM ET Sunday morning to discuss!

"There is a rule in politics never to ascribe to malignity what one can explain through incompetence and stupidity. This approach has become difficult to sustain in the case of the Trump administration. But there is another possibility: Both explanations operate simultaneously."

Clowns. 🤡 But clowns wielding flamethrowers, to quote one of @sykescharlie.bsky.social favorite lines.

These guys are idiots.

Nothing to see here, just 750 of the most preeminent political scientists in the country expressing urgent concern over 47's blatant disregard for the rule of law and the constitutional order (including my high school friend Elisabeth Anker)

It's not even sleight of hand, it's blatant and obvious yet MAGA eats up the bullshit and calls it delicious year after year.

That’s the ticket. Show up in court, with your Bar licenses on the line, and answer a judge’s pointed and specific questions on how this deal went down.

There is a reason we have kept all this personal data about YOU compartmentalized, and run by extremely boring and fastidious bureaucrats who seek neither fame nor fortune. Because you are not going to enjoy the alternative.

Not exactly a feel good story but worth the read.

Ironic that Trump built his political rise on birtherism, only to install a non-natural-born citizen as President.

This Presidents’ Day, I’m thinking about the system our Founders helped create, one with strong checks and balances. I can only imagine what they would think today.

You cannot determine whether you saved or cost money based solely on one side of the ledger. Example: I saved my household $2K by not paying the mortgage.

This article about a tragically unsafe sawmill in Alabama sounds reads like an allegory for what's coming to the whole country in 47's America.

No one describes a bank robbery as a cash withdrawal. Same applies here.

“There’s not much inside Trump’s head besides a putter, a cheeseburger, a porn video, and somebody else’s credit card.” - @timobrien.bsky.social

I would argue that anyone who is incapable of honestly answering “how many children do you have?” is not overly transparent.

We got a Costco membership for the first time in our lives today. They asked why & I said because treat your workers well, you value diversity, & you didn’t cave in to authoritarian demands. He said: “We’ve been getting lots of folks saying that, thanks for joining.” Who needs a gallon of ketchup?

Please stop believing we don’t owe each other anything. We owe each other so much! We owe each other love, equity, understanding, community, compassion, and much more. Don’t let this toxic hyper individualism cut you off from humanity. We’re all connected. We all need each other.

If you’ve ever taken the oath to uphold the Constitution, this is the time to live up to it.

I love it when MAGAs that think they "won" if you block them. Nah, dude. If you'd actually won an argument with me, that would mean I learned something from you and I'd follow you. What happened is you proved you're so irredeemably obdurate that there is no point in ever talking to you again.

So good

As a journalist who covers extremism at the local level, I think it’s a mistake to view Trump’s Napoleonic statement as solely about presidential power. Consider if it’s interpreted as a wink and a nod for any extremist to act outside the law to “save” the country as they see fit

One enduring problem with the American electorate is how millions of people convinced themselves the government plays no role in their economic situation except to tax and to hinder them while giving money to undeserving people.

Utter failure to grasp what we are facing www.nytimes.com/2025/02/15/u... 1. People lack the framework to recognize an attempt to overthrow the constitutional order 2. The lack of elites *acting* like point 1 is true makes it illegible. Without Ds behaving as if it's a crisis, it's not a crisis.

Accidentally firing hundreds of critical nuclear safety employees will probably end up being the 685th most dangerously incompetent thing this administration does.

Way to go, Tucson 🌵💪🌵💪‼️

A total humiliation to the Justice Department. Like a big patch of shit on white golf pants.

Says powerful man who voted to give the unqualified drunk the job
