What's interesting is the fact that the stratosphere is actually cooling, which is consistent with anthropogenic climate change. Hawkins now expects to have to redesign the entire colour scale to accommodate a wider range of temperatures.

Working with @ricliv.bsky.social, Prof. Hawkins has now updated the stripes to convey an even richer set of data: global average temperatures from the surface up to the troposphere and stratosphere, and also in the ocean from the top 100m down to depths below 1,500m.
